Need to replace transmission CV shaft seals...tips?
I’m guessing that maybe it’s because of the sub-freezing temps we’ve had here the last few days causing the seals to shrink and/or crack, but I’ve got a seal on my transmission that’s leaking fluid. It’s right where the CV shaft plugs into it. How difficult is it to replace these seals? And where can I get them? What’s the part number?Any tips would be great! Thanks!

Depends on whether its driver or passenger side; the seals are slightly different. Go to the dealer or one of our on-line vendors. The job involves disconnection of the lower ball joint, the tie rod end, the axle nut that runs through the hub, and if on the passenger side the carrier bearing housing (which of all these steps is in my opinion the hardest.). Only then can you remove the seal, and if original on your 15 year old car has become quite hard and brittle, and must be pryed out, being careful to not damage the inner diameter of the recess in which the seal sits.
