R50/53 Virginia help needed
#3
There are two types of errors , stored fault codes and permanent fault codes.None code reader can erase a permanent fault code. You must remove the mechanical or electrical issue first of all, and after that your code reader will be able to erase fault code.On R53, a stored fault code does not cause MIL on, after engine restart if fault code is only stored, MIL is off.Only Airbag faults , even are stored faults need a code reader to erase.

I thought that once a hard or permanent code was set it had to reset with a programmer even after the problem is corrected in the case of a P1498 code it is for long term fuel trim. It measures current and compares it to stored data, right. If what you have told means that I still have a problem

Do you have modifications ? If so that error will happen no matter if it's running perfect or not sometimes . I HAD to have it tuned out. Adriancl did it for me. You could always ask him and I could borrow you my computer to obd2 connector I used too .
the elm327 and any scanner no matter what would not erase that code and no matter what sensors or what were replaced the code stayed present until tuned out.
