Reset Service Interval Display

I recently acquired a 2003 R50 Hatchback with 134,000 Km (80k miles) and I had some maintenance done by my trusted mechanic (brakes, tune-up, oil change, shocks). Now I would like to reset the Service Interval Display back to zero. Do I need an OBD2 scanner or another device to do this? currently, it shows "5550 Oil Change" when I turn the key to power (position 2)

Thanks for your help

1. Press and HOLD the trip reset button
2. Insert key and turn to position 1
3. Watch for display to change to RESET
4. release trip button, then press again and HOLD
5. watch for RESET to flash
6. RELEASE trip button and then press briefly and release (only once)
7. Service interval should resent to a number (which can vary. it won't go to zero .. it is a countdown ... if it says 5500 now that means the computer thinks you have 5500 'til next tracked service item ... usually oil)

my 02 was very persnickety about the timing of this sequence and it usually took about 3 tries for me to get it right ... but it DID work ... eventually.
