Does anyone have a wind deflector?

We took delivery on our new '05 MCS this pass Monday. We've noticed a lot of wind noise if the sunroof is open and windows are up. I have thought about getting a wind deflector. Does anyone have one? Does it cut down the noise? If it doesn't help I'll probably pass on getting one.

Thanks,
keith

Mini sells one for a bit over 100$ but you can get one that is 99% the same from Pep boys of all places for about $30 if you want to give it a try. I have heard that it does make a huge differance. There was one guy running one locally and he said that it made a world of differance. From what I could see it just sticks on with double sided tape. I think they come in differant sizes but the Mini used the smallest now there is a shock

Actually those flaps that pop up when you open the roof are supposed to be the deflector and keep unwated debris from getting in. The ironic thing is that they cause more noise than anything. If you hold them down flat while driving you will notice less noise but an increase in wind.

My only objection to a deflector would be that it would detract from the clean roof line.

my 2 cents

Good question! I was wondering that very thing while out motoring with the sunroof open. I have yet to see a MINI with the deflector here in the DFW area.

50 MPH is about the top speed I can handle before I close it down. On a real windy day, even 50 MPH is way to much noise IMO. I have never seen a MINI yet with a roof wind deflector in the Okla City area.

I agree it would take away from the clean line look, but I'd be interested in hearing from someone if the $129 wind deflector (from Mini) actually cuts noise down or doesn't really help.
I'll have to try the 'hold down the flap thing' to see what happens.

Thanks for the 2 cents worth.

MINI Wind Deflector Installed

I have the MINI sunroof wind deflector installed on 2005 MCS and am quite happy with it - it is rather unique and definitely secured better than double-faced tape. Please follow this link for more discussion, details and some pics. The thread is located at:

I tried the "hold down the flap thing" today. It does make a huge difference in the noise. I would guess that the deflector would essentially do the same thing except that it would force the wind over the flaps.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. What I didn't know was that it had a seperate, movable vane.
I wonder if it could be painted white to match the top? I'm getting the decal that covers the sunroof so the top will be all white.

I just took mine off. No difference in wind noise as far as I can tell.
The biggest thing I hate about them is the dirt and debris that gets below the rubber "seal" that it sits on so it doesn't scratch the car. I had a nice brown dirt line in the same shape on my roof when I took it off. The MINI looks better without it.

If you want it, email me at red02gmc@***.net and we can work something out.

I have tried one that bought from Moss Mini. Terrible and more wind noise than with out. They do not look good and are useless.

I guess I'll do without since they won't reduce the noise or it stays the same. No need to buy if it won't do what I was hoping.

Thanks all for replying,
keith
