I would like to get rid of the ugly US reflectors found on each corner of the car. I know those have some type of connector since they light up, so my question is, would it be ok if I just tape/zip tie the connector and install the euro pieces?

Nothing wrong. I modified my corner light to use blink lights and also parking lights.Just connect the negative wire of corner lights to positive wire of signal light.Will get parking lights on and also as signal lights.

 

There's also a few companies that make smoked lights for those, front and rear. I've thought about those a few times, might look really slick.

 

I have those on my '06 R52....they are great

As promised, pictures of the smoked corner lights. Mine are the black version, I think they also have gray ones, not sure. I paid around $50 for all 4.

The corner lights I got from eBay....I have seen them from $35 to $55 depending on location....hope you enjoy them as much as I have
