I was asked about programming for several features, but not all of them evidently. If I had known the option about double pulls on the door to open it I surely would have opted out of that feature.

As with anything electronic or mechanical, eventually the aftermarket will figure out a tool to do this yourself. I'll just wait until somebody figures out how to modify the computer settings.

Our dealer can program your car to:
  1. auto lock at ~10mph
  2. auto unlock when car is switched off
That takes care of 95% of my needs. I just use the remote for everything else. No muss, no fuss.

Auto Lock? Could be a problem??

I'm curious about the auto lock after engine is off feature. If the key is still in the ignition switch will the car still auto lock itself?

Like a young child might ask: why?

Seems we can get obd readers and ecu programmers and such, how come no aftermarket company has come up with a programmer for these features?

I would guess it's because there isn't really a recurring need for accessing these features. We generally don't change our minds regarding our desires in that regard. It's also proprietary code (probably in the BC1) as opposed to the standardized OBDII, or ECU which is outsourced (currently comes from Siemens, IIRC). Lots of people will spend money for addition performance, or at least the quest for it. Doubtful they'd do the same to change how many presses of the key are needed to unlock the passenger door.
Market research: How much would you pay to access those features?

I've read that people pay the dealers between $30 and $100 to 'fix' their options that they never got when they bought their mini or bmw (bmw's have all or most of these programabilities). Additionally there are the new owners of these used cars.

And most of the dealers don't have a clue what to offer these customers when they want those changes. You can't get what you don't know to ask for ;o)

I'd pay an easy $50 to somebody who could (that i'm confident) offer me a comprehensive list of the options. And I'd pay another $20 to come back to the same person and change any of the ones that I decided I didn't want anymore.

So as a businessperson I wonder why any of the aftermarket companies might not want to develop a tool that could be 'loaned' (pay a deposit, they ship it to you, you do the work, and then ship it back and get your deposit back) to the customer?

But I am ignorant to the development of the tool and how difficult or proprietary it might be.

As for buying the tool myself, it probably wouldn't be worth the expense just to make the changes once and then have it sit on a shelf until I changed my mind ;o)

Wow, I will definately e-mail my MA a list when the car comes in. Then there is an electronic record of what I want.

It is still not clear on the auto lock when engine is off feature. Will it work in combo with the auto unlock and does it work after you ahve exited the car? Will it still lock if you have exited but left the keys in the ignition or even in the seat?

The fact that we can't reprogram this stuff ourselves is definitely frustrating...argh.

Hey Goodfinder, I see you're in Plano....I'm in McKinney.

Does anyone have the .pdf or .xls files saved on their computer from post #8?

If yes, could you post it again in this thread or email it to me?

Thanks!

Wish I had seen this thread a few weeks ago, I could have saved so much time. Now I read that only the dealers can do/make these changes. The book doesn't say that. But after many times trying & re-trying I called my MA and he is going to make all the changes I want.

how do they do this programming? Do they just use your key and upload the information, or does your car have to be present for them to make the adjustments? Just curious if I could mail them my key and have the settings changed, opposed to me driving 6 1/2 hours for something that should only take a few minutes.
