R50/53 cv axle replacement question
#52
Sorry to hijack this thread a little, I need to source an axle for my r53. I'm planning on taking a risk on some axles from napa, anyone ever used their axles? I have more trust for napa parts than stuff from autozone or advance. They come with a warranty, so if they're bad I'll just return them.
I got my drive side so far it went through no issues with splines in transmission side and as well on bearing side. I replaced the shaft oils seal on mine with Corteco brand seal.
Here's my original MINI CV shaft... 34 teeth \ spline or whatever tech\mechanical term you want.
For R53.
Transmission side: 34 spline
Bearing side: 26 spline
and here's the GKN remanufactured CV shaft.

I did mine on the R52 aftermarket and they were fine. You just have to make sure places have the correct one per the transmission and side, lots of people mix them up selecting the wrong car or side. Or they don't realize auto and manual transmissions. The catalogs of some of those Non MINI focused places also mix up part numbers are they data dump info and overlap models in the 2007 R52 vs R56. We do things more manual here and audit the data. So just be careful with ordering things from other people as you might get the wrong part.
