Is anybody else out there driving stupid fast? I don't know why I do it. Maybe it's a sickness that you catch when you drive a Mini? My symptoms started like this. First I re-routed my commute to work so that I took the twistiest roads possible. Never mind the fact that my commute is now 20% longer. These roads are 35 to 45 MPH zones and most are marked with yellow 25 MPH signs in the corners. Then, as I became more comfortable, possibly "sicker", I started driving them at 55 MPH and taking the corners at 45 MPH. A couple of nights ago I was late leaving work so I was hustling it home through the twisties when the Mini got a little bit squirrely in a corner. I looked over at the speedometer and I was exiting a 25 MPH corner at 65! I muttered to myself that I was driving stupid fast which is beyond scary fast and approaching ludicrous speed. Not that I mind being sick mind you. My commute is 20% longer but I now complete it in the same amount of time as before the Mini sickness set it an I arrive at work and at home in a better mood having burned off some stress along the commute.

So here is my concern. How long will it be before either the Mini is "all used up" or I make a mistake so big that the DSC can't save me and I pitch it off into the woods? Does anybody else have this sickness? Does anybody have any suggestions for a cure?

I have it too but I have the strain that makes my drive 90-100 on the freeway and still want to go faster but afraid THAT may be escessive. I have it bad.

Yeah....be careful ok? I have two friends that have been hit by a car on a residential streets because of people driving "stupid fast". Both of them lived but they had several broken bones apiece. When I was younger a girl in my school got run over and killed when she was crossing the street by someone who was driving too fast also.

My suggestion....slow down before you kill yourself or someone else. That's all there is to it and it shouldn't be that hard for you. I just remember how my friends could have been killed or WERE killed and it keeps my speed in check.

Speed doesn't kill...but 'stupid fast' does.
Do some autoxing or club racing and save
it for the track.... .
The life you save may be your own....

I agree that it's tempting, but you never know when someone will be pulling out of a driveway, or someone on a bicycle or walking, or a dog or a deer or 2minis. You get the idea. at least you realize you're going too fast! That's the first step.

Liquid_Yellow, take it to the track before you hurt your car, or yourself, or someone else. If you haven't done a track day before, they are even _more_ fun that your having now. Everyone goes the same direction, no blue-hairs going slow in your lane, and (the best part) its completely legal.

You wouldn't happen to have that cute monkey from the super-funny retirement commercial, do you?

I must be in Egypt because I feel denial. First, for all of you safety mavens out there, the post was supposed to be in good fun. I usually don't drive stupid fast every day. I know I should take it to the track and I'm investigating joing the Winston-Salem branch of the SCCA. You don't have to worry about me taking somebody else with me. I wouldn't risk a passengers life. The area I drive is extremely rural so there is very little chance of cross traffic. The houses are miles apart and there are no hidden driveways. I always respect the other drivers on the road. (my road?) My biggest fear is meeting Bambi or his dad one night.

OK! Now I'm scared straight! A picture is truly worth a thousand words! Deer versus truck is bad enough but deer versus Mini would be unthinkably bad! Still... (Zoom Zoom Zoom) I've just got this urge! Is there an immunization for this sickness. There must be somethingcause I still see people driving new beetles and pt cruisers.

HELP!

That's fine if it's all in good fun, but hearing people talk like that hits home to me. It's hard to go visit a friend in the hospital after they've been run over (in broad daylight). Trust me I don't always go the speed limit either....neither does anyone....but my idea of "stupid fast" is what put my friends in the hospital. Have fun with the SCCA; I am sure it will be a good time, but regardless of where you drive, you never know what might happen.
(See photo above.... )

Just my 2¢.....
