Very Bad People
Broke into my mini in the middle of the night didn't get anything because I heard them and chased them, which let to their arrest. They did however do alot of internal and external damage to the car, to the tune of nearly 4,000$$$ not very happy at all. The other thing that helped is that I have an 02 which means when you lock the car from the outside there is no way to open any of the doors which is very nice in situations like this. Anyway

Bummer! This is the kind of thing that we all fear. Just don't let it steal you happiness. Soon enough your MINI will be back, good as new. And they'll still be morons.
What happens in a case like this? Are the bad people required to make restitution? Or, does your insurance take care of it?

Why would anyone try to go through the rear window!

I know it's not the same, but i feel you man. A year ago while I was visiting my grandparents in Georgia I brought my Yamaha Blaster with me on the back of a pick-up. Well when we were at the hotel some idiots pulled up to the truck cut the support straps and loaded it into their van, apparently the van was stolen too, the funny thing is they shattered their window and threw out the back seat. Talk about profesionals. But since we were in the dirty south the cops were too lazy to start looking for them, after all we were in the Redneck'sVille part of Georgia. Just be glad they didn't steal it. I am still mad about them stealing my 4-wheeler, you just don't get over it when they steal something that important to you.

I've had 2 stolen cars, and 3 break-ins. All in good parts of town too!!! Granted those were all modified Hondas though. After my last break-in I moved a couple blocks away to a place that had a garage. No problems w/in the last year.
I know how it feels to have your car broken into. It's one of the most frustrating things in the world. At the very least they cought the guys who did the damage. Many people (myself included) wish they could say that after there cars get stolen, or broken into. Sorry to hear about what happened...

Being broken into or getting vandalized is my biggest MINI fear. At home, the MINI is always in a locked garage, and the car itself is kept locked. The keys are kept inside in a hidden place. Also, I have a baby monitor in the garage, so I can hear what's going on in there. Plus, the dogs bark up a storm when anyone gets near our house.
At work, I park right next to one of the parking lot security cameras, and our guard, Officer Shirley, knows our MINI and keeps an eye on "that cute 'lil red car".
Your insurance company will go after these culprits (the dirty scum), and will try to recover their loss from them, as well as your deductable. They have really good lawyers! Also, many venues have a victim restitution fund that you can make a claim with.
Sorry to hear about your incident. Your MINI will be as good as new soon!

That sux! Several years ago some punk broke into my Civic Si and stole my stereo/sub and all my cd's that just happen to be in my car. Well the idiot left a perfect finger print on the window. I mentioned this to the cops over the phone. The were hesitant to come by and fill out a report. So they sent a "community officer" to take a look. She took the print and Holy CSI!!! caught the punk. Turns out he had a record but was under age. Juvenile court made him pay me back whenever he was employed. So over the next several years I got random checks in the mail till it was paid off.
Sad thing several month after the theft of the stereo...............someone else stole the car?!?!?!

Sorry to hear your MINI was broken into. I had a VW Passat that was broken into twice and I know the frustration and anger you feel.
Car and Driver had an article a couple years back about car jacking in South Africa. One device that many folks were adding to their cars was a heavy steel bar that would flip out like a switch blade at ankle height by the driver side door. Needless to say, this incapacitated the SOB in a hurry.
In fact, they probably fell to the ground where you could run the SOB over a couple of times before the cops showed up!

Ooooohhhhh - if EVER there was a reason to bring back public floggings, MINI mauling is it. . .just kidding. . .maybe. . .farkin' bastiges. . .
I had someone try to lift the speakers out of my BMW in Frankfurt years ago. Fortunately, I had loooooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg bolts holding 'em in. Something or someone chased 'em off, and when I came out the next morning, the nuts were about 3/4" from the end of some 4 1/2" bolts. Another 5-10 minutes of jiggling and they'd have probably had 'em. Funny thing is - the trunk lock wasn't working - all they had to do was pop the trunk and spin off the wing nuts and they'd have been home free. Moral of the story? Never, ever try to figure what out what goes through the pea-brains of common criminals - you're not gonna figure it out and you'll just end up with a headache.
