There have been a number of people commenting on the fact that the rear windshield washer on their Mini either sprays the spoiler or only covers half the window. Some have suggested Draconian measures involving pins and needles. Here is the simple way to adjust the jet. The only tool needed is a dime or a screwdriver. It only takes a couple of minutes.
Refer to this photo. Your squirter should look like this:
There is a wide slot on the top, and the squirter jet is on the "top" end. To adjust the squirter, you twist the jet with a dime placed in the slot. When the slot is parallel to the blade, you will squirt the spoiler. If the slot is twisted clockwise, the spray get directed onto the glass.
For those of you who squirt your spoiler, twist the dime clockwise a few degrees. For those of you who are not getting full coverage of the glass, twist counter-clockwise a little bit. You can see from the photo where my slot optimized my squirt.
That's the neatest Mini discovery yet.......on a par with the discovery of the America's. I'll bet Mini Division doesn't even know about this! It works only by carefully placing the thin edge of the end of the key in the groove of the screw.
Very cool, NRX13!
Very good thread....
Really appreciate the heads-up.on this one
My sprayer seems to spray...... the car next to me or low flying planes.... but never the back window
You can actually adjust the rear sprayer to shoot completely over the car and past the hood. When I adjusted mine a few months ago I didn't realize how sensitive it was. My dog who was standing in front of the car didn't appreciate the sudden bath...
Tom:
Thanks so much for that info. Can you tell me how to adjust the front? When I'm on the freeway, it seems fairly well adjusted. But, inner city, it shoots over the roof? Help?????
To adjust the front window washer nozzles just take something like a toothpick and move the nozzle up/down/right/left. Test the spray pattern until you get it centered on the window. I noticed while drying the car after a bath it is easy to accidently move the nozzles if your not careful.
