Soon-to-be MINI owner - plz help! :)

Hello all! I'm ordering my MCS from Long Beach Mini (CA) next week - I've loved the Cooper since the day it came out and I can't wait! But I have one big question... what kind of maintenace record can I expect? I'm just a little concerned, since I've had a Toyota for the last 9 years - 148,000 miles on it and NO breakdowns or mechanical problems yet. I'm going to want to keep my Mini for many, many years, so I was wondering, for those of you with lots of miles, how many miles do you have, and what kind of problems have you had? Think it's expensive to repair (after the warranty period is up)? Also, are there any other websites that deal specifically with maintenance problems?

Thank you!!!

You can peruse the 'under the bonnet' forum for any variety of problems. There are also countless threads about people being scared after seeing all the problems, and an equal or greater number of posts stating they don't have any/many problems.

You've got maintenance covered for three years, and a full warrantee for four years (50K miles), so you won't be seeing a maintenance bill (outside of user error induced repairs) for quite a while. The newer cars also seem to be well screwed together.

There are not THAT many cars over the 50K warrantee period yet, so it's tough to get a good feel for what you can expect. Hopefully nothing breaks, but if it does, BMW (er, MINI) service is not cheap.

The car is not that expensive to repair. And it is worth it, despite any maintenance problems you have. Stop worrying, and just go get it.
