Ordered MY Dark Silver MCS!!!

Hi to all, just getting acquainted to the Mini forum.
I had been waiting for 6 months for a new Infiniti G35 Coupe-but today I cancelled the order and placed my order for my MCS.

I still love the G35C...great car-meets/exceeds all the design goals for it's category etc....looks great, performs great and handles VERY well
..couldn't find too much to fault (well didn't Love the interior-didn't match the sleek exterior styling but.....)-EXCEPT increasingly as I read more and more new G35c owners posting they were Avg. 16-17 MPG....I found myself having a feeling of guilt! I didn't need to be using that much gas.....my Wife was shopping for a car...she needed something larger and we had looked at a lot of SUV's, the 13-15 MPG of most of them bugged us.....we settled on a Forrester....large enough for anything we needed and she Avg's 25 MPG....it's no Prius-but it's a compromise that we can feel good about.
I sat in a Mini at an auto show....and was blown away buy the quality/design and practical size......had to drive one.....took out an MCS last week......Perfect!! Handled as well as the G35c (different naturally...but in it's own way-just as good). My main desire in getting the G35c was to get a 2 door-w/ semi-usable back seat/usable rear deck, driving Fun & performance, unique looks and good/solid build quality....I was getting all those in the MCS! All while saving $10K and more importantly, saving 10-12 MPG (again ...no Prius....but I can still feel pretty good about it).
Anyway...sorry for the longgg post...again Hi to All.....just gona try to get up to speed/get educated reading through posts. The hardest part now will just be the few months of waiting..........!

Good for you... Congrats.

A friend of mine bought one and is starting to complain about MPG. So, I pointed out to her that she didn't make CAR OF THE YEAR....

Congrats!! And good choice (blatant bias)!!!

My father and his friends have quite a collection of cars. Ferrari 360 Modenas, BMW M3s, Lotus, etc. I've been out and about in most of them and can say with total certainly that the MINI gets more neck-snapping looks than anything else I've ever been in. Such a cool feeling to pull up next to a mid-90's Lambo Diablo and have the kids on the street corner scream that they love your Cooper and say nothing to the midlife crisis next to you. True story.

16-17 mpg for a G35? Jeezy Creezy. How is that possible??? Nissan should be ashamed. I bet the X-Terra gets that.

It did not make car of the year... according to the NAISA (or whatever) but it did make it as Edmunds #1 Pick. Well it's better looking brother the 350Z did... the G35 has a sissy looking front end.

The saddest thing is the G35c is going to be considered to be turned into the next Skyline. Actually it is the next Skyline, but it is the GTS, not the GT-R version.

If i could, i would love a 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec ($~90,000), but money is limited and as soon as i get my new job soon, i will definately be dropping my order again on my MCS.

I had almost the very same dilemma as you. I was committed to getting the G35c for the exact same reasons as you. I was even more committed after my younger brother got his 350Z. Got to keep up with younger brother! So, I CAN'T WAIT until March 03 when I get a......DS/B MCS with Premium/CW Pack, Zenons, HK, Rally lights and upgraded wheel package. We both made the right decision

Drove the G35....wow, what a terrific car, I loved it, far better than the 350Z IMO, better visability out the back, better storage, better ride and just as quick as Z I thought.....hell of a car but more than 10K higher than the MCS, so it's really not a fair comparison, more of a comparison to the BMW 330 but nice comeback for Infinity over previous models...

That Nissan 3.5L (used in the Altima, Maxima, 350Z, Pathfinder, 04 Quest, Xtera, Frontier and G35) is a VERY thirsty engine. You combine that engine with a manual tranny and heavy foot and GULP, GULP, GULP.

Interesting part is the same engine is tuned to spit out anywhere from 225-280hp and they all get the same gas mileage. Word is that it can get upwards of 300+ and that is all naturally asperated.

really not a fair comparison

I agree. How can you compare a G35 Coupe to a Mini Cooper? Totally different cars. Not even in the same category.

Funny thing is, I own a Cooper S and my dad just got a G35 Coupe.
