Since the first day I drove my car to work here about 3 months ago, I've been hearing "That's a chick car" and people (guys) just generally poking fun and laughing. One person asked whose Mini was in the parking lot while I was in the room. I said "mine" and he just looked at me and laughed. Oh well. It doesn't bother me. One of these days I will start taking people out to lunch for a surprise spirited drive. On the other hand, all the women at work say "it's so cute" . They're working against me here! People outside my normal circle usually love it though. It's just my "friends" giving me a hard time.

I think the quote from the bumper sticker is "I drive a MINI. What are YOU compensating for?"

There is another thread around here somewhere about MINI being a girl/gay car. Forgetting all the talk about driving circles around people and whatnot, to repeat what I said in that thread, chicks dig gay guys, Im in!

Seriously though, at 6'5", dark skin, dark hair, etc. i get alot of crap about driving my baby around. Mostly from guys with big trucks, american muscle cars, and higher end japanese coupes (think rx-7/8, s2000, etc.) and my response to all of them is usually a sideways glance, raised eyebrow, and my back. I don't have time or patience to deal with that kind of small minded intolerance of other people's tastes. I personally have a thing against the "rice burner" but if thats what someone likes and they're happy with it, more power to them, as long as it doesnt hurt me or anyone else in the process.

I got the exact same thing when I was waiting for delivery. A few of my friends wondered why I was wasting my money on such a girly car. But all changed when they saw it in person. Now they have to be extra nice to me for a ride in it.

Yes, the MINI is a chick car... a Chick Magnet! I always have cute chicks coming up to look at the MINI and admire it. I love the part where they lean into the window to have a look inside

If I were still single...

They frown on that in the Navy. If we had some Marines around, MAYBE I would do that...let them use the old "13 button napkin"

Yeah well, having seen your car in person over at Chad's a while back, its not quite as "cute" as those of us who haven't had much in the way of mods done yet.

I've gotten similar responses before on my Cooper, and I remember seeing a saying on another MINI I think so I hade vinyl letters made for my rear window. "I drive a MINI, What are you compensating for?"

I have received a LOT of responses like, "I couldn't drive that, it's not a manly car" and such BS like that. I usually come back with "I'm secure enough to realize that my manhood/sexual preference is not dictated by the car I drive" but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same response from SUV-driving redneck idiots (or any other color neck).

I just thought it was interesting is all. I can't wait to get my Cabrio S and whip past them on the winding mountain roads around here
I get that too, every since I mentioned I was getting a Mini I've gotten mixed responses.

"That car is for homosexuals"

"Man, if you get into an accident in that thing, say good bye!!"

"thats a sissies car"

Some of them after realizing I am not joking about getting the car... suddenly change thier tune.

Others however keep on, and when I tell them that the MINI has a long history and has some true sports car Heritage behind it they just laugh..

I tell them, after I get it and I take you for a ride... we'll see who will have to clean out their shorts when we get back...

I don't think I've ever had anyone say a negative comment to me about the Mini. The closest thing I get is that I don't look I'd be driving that car. As you can see by my sig, I'm usually associated with the yellow beast, so the Mini was a drastic change.

The cooper is far from a chick car. If you're seen behind the wheel of a Honda Del Sol, or maybe a VW Bug, then I'd start to worry. But the Mini has *****, and style to boot. Anyone that says otherwise has ego/esteem issues of their own to address.

That's the spirit! Rock on!

A lot of MINI owners get abuse, and so do Ram and other SUV owners. I say that a person should drive the car that meets his/her needs and makes him/her happy.

I expected a bit of abuse in a southern town of 6000, but I have experienced quite the opposite. I get mobbed everytime I go to the store or running errands. Around here, the MINI has a reputation for being a hyper-expensive extreme performance car. I get all sorts of questions and positive comments. The thing that really makes the curious people happy is when they find out that a Cooper starts at ~$18K and a Cooper S around $21K...

As I keep saying when this subject (inevitably) turns up:

Have doubts about your MINI's 'orientation'? Then take it on something other than a straight road and see how much it likes it.

[QUOTE=The Short Bus]What are ya'll talking about? It IS a girly car... when i drive it (note pinwheel spinning on the antenna)

Here's the answer. When a man drives is manly, when a girl drives is girly (except the MCS or MCSC )
