Hey all!
So it sounds like some minor problems are occuring within the first 5,000 miles That is kind of a bummer. Whats up with the passenger seat thing? Can someone explain that to me again? What are you opinions on it as a daily driver in Southern california? I wonder how it going to hold up when it hits 50 or 90 thousand miles?? Any thoughts??

Nobody really knows how it will hold up, even to 50k. Even when they were doingtesting on the eingine, they only went for 5,000 mile tests... nothing too long. You can hope that because BMW played a huge part in it, that it will be reliable, and everlasting... I guess all that can be done is to wait

I have 3,000 miles on mine and it is a daily driver. My only driver as a matter of fact.
I have had zero problems. Nothing broken, nothing rattling no weird noises. In fact it seems to run better each day.
Some things to keep in mind when browsing forums for any car; New models always have some glitches. People who experience even a minor problem are much more likely to post about it here than people who have no problems.
happy motoring!

The S is my daily driver and will be all thru the foreseeble future. This includes our great Iowa winters with salt, snow and whatever. I plan on removing the S spokes and installing 15 inch with good winter tires and to keep on motoring. I have recently completed a 3600 mile trip to South Florida and can report atotal of ZERO faults. They done good!

My Mini is driven daily - but work is only 11 miles from home!
Last weeks 100 degree weather seemed to overload the A/C so I don't know how good Mini would be in hot parts of USA.
I used to do 500 mile (each way) trips to Pennsylvania - I am not sure I would enjoy doing that in the Mini. The tight handling is fun, but I think the bumps would be too harsh on a long run.

My Emma is a daily driver. We go everywhere together! We took a 790 mile trip up the CA coast (HWY 1) last weekend and it was great. Very comfy for long rides! She's only got 2k miles on her, but that's in just a month (amazing considering I used to average 4k a year!). It's just so fun to drive, you end up driving it more. What they say about the break-in period being 1250 mi is true! When we hit that mark, there were changes in performance. You can go faster in lower gears without getting near the 4500 rpm mark and so on. This car rides as stable and as smooth as it does at 110 mph as it does at 50 mph!!! I do hear a kind of clicking noise that comes from the back, but I think it's something jangling with the spare tire underneath. I'll crawl under there this weekend and take a look. No biggie.
However, as much as I love my car, it does seriously need more power. Driving with the AC on at 70 or 110 mph is no problem, but starting up from a dead stop, unless you really gas it, it almost stalls. I miss my 3.8L, but I wouldn't trade in my MINI for anything (other than a 250 hp MINI!). I hope it's reliable in the long run. Since the car is so well made by BMW, I don't think it'll be a problem. We'll find out when we all get there I guess.

I didn't plan on making my MCS a daily driver - I just miss it when I'm driving my other car ('97 Cavalier). After 1-month, and 3K miles, it just keeps getting better. I drove it from San Jose to L.A., and back, last weekend (650 miles) and it was unbelievable! The car handles like a dream. Crusing the freeway at 80, you come up on a slower car, down shift, rocket to 95 and pass without missing a beat. I'm an "old fart" witha bad back and normally I'm limping around after driving 300 miles straight but after pulling into the motel in LA I had no problem walking around the city and taking in a movie. I'll be making the same run next week and I'm looking forward to it. Maybe taking the coastal route this time.
I've had a number of different cars (early and late VW bugs, Renault LeCar, 1969 911-S, 1959 A-H 100 6, econo-cars, pickups and vans) but I can't say enough about this car! Definately the best I've ever had.

Maxine is my commute (and fun) car. However, my husband and I do have to trade cars a couple times a week so he can share the fun. Otherwise, he'd have all the weekend driving rights!
With the traffic on the highways, I've always felt lucky to have 15 minute commutes, but now when I get to work, I'm wishing my commute were much longer! I'm just never ready to get out of the car.

Are you near the Omaha area? That's my home town and I bet there's never any more than 10 MINIs there within the first year! (except when I drive up to visit!!)

I'm originally from California (raised in SoCal, then moved to central California...hot and dry), but moved to the Chicago 'burbs Dec. 2000. I'm amazed at how quickly the road salt attacks the nuts and bolts under the car and under the hood. So my MCS will be my daily driver until it looks like they'll salt the roads, when I'll tuck it away until late spring.

Brooksie is our daily drivin' MINI. It's quite a change from our '99 Suburban! I had a 998 Cooper as a daily for a while, and Brooksie reminds me more and more of it. The big difference between the 'Burb and our other cars and Brooksie is this: I never had a yen to go blasting out to the twisties in 'em. This weekend I did it again, so help me, I couldn't resist!
