Help Mc40 Owners!!!
Hey all,
I wanted to buy a full set of MC40 decals at Classic today, but Jason told me that I would need a Vin from an MC40 or for someone to call in and order a set for me. If someone can order them for me and set it up so that i can pick them up at Classic, i would appreciate it. PM if anyone can help!!!!
OR, alternatively (is that a word?
), does anyone have a full set of MC40 Decals for sale?

Call Herb at Sterling (from Roadfly). They will give you discount. I really doubt you will need a VIN, they never asked me. BTW, if you really want them, they may be VERY hard to find. Word I had was they were stopping making them in order to make them rare (or not selling enough).

Don't tell anybody
, but I made my own file of the MC40 graphic (...it's pretty darn close anyway) that I used for the 40 anniversary of the 1st Monte win. I was not about to let such an event pass w/o proper recognition even if it meant doing so w/o MINIUSA or BMW's help. If you want the file, I can email it....I'm already thinking about the Mini 50th anniversary.

...But there is a reason that the dealership requires the VIN for proof, to keep a commemorative limited edition what it was meant to be - limited.
That being said, the MC40 is for all intensive purposes the same exact car as a stock MCS. There's nothing 'special' about the engine, body, weight, etc about the car. We didnt even get those fancy digital climate controls OR Navigation. One of the only exterior details that seperate it from a non-commemorative is the special badging. I do not feel that the MC40 is better than any other MINI on the road. In fact, I've seen so many other MINIs that others have been brilliantly personalized that I have truly admired and drooled over - MISFITTOYS comes to mind...oh, and Hubie's rocket. But I am proud of the fact that the MC40 officially commemorates an important milestone in the history of our beloved MINIS.
I am not a fan of asking MC40 owners (as you had done) to essentially misrepresent themselves or 'pimp' their VIN numbers with the intent of beating the system w/ the parts dept. in the same way I'm not a fan of Ashlee Simpson lip-synching on Saturday Night Live. Its not hurting anyone really, but its just not sexy.

I made a comment that you may have taken exception to for whatever reason - but for you to generelize and suggest that I or any MC40 owner thinks theirs is better than any other MINI is something I cannot agree with. Any MINI on the road with any kind of personalization, whether it be an engine upgrade or cool made-at-home MINI IPOD Dock is better than an MC40 because its their own.
There are a 999 more of mine running around...and we paid i think $7k over value on the car for stickers and a name plate - so i may not be the smartest car buyer on the road, lol...but I'm no Ashlee Simpson.

I'm the one who gave RIck the part #. He's cool and now moved on to an S. Thats cool. No one ever asked me for a VIN number. As to your other points (and they are not really rebuttal

- Nav, auto A/C, etc is fluff. Not fitting for that car. No cruise either.
- But you did get the red leather that No one has nor can they order and the MC wheels that STILL are the most expensive wheels MINI sells and the JCW CF dash. As to badging, they are just a bunch of decals. I had mine taken off ... One site in the UK sells them and I had one of the NAM vendors make some custom ones for me in different sizes. I thought red decals on a red car just didnt look right. Some ppl might, I just didnt. I did have this custom made
- There was some huge argument on MINI2 about "pimping" out their JCW TC numbers so non-JCW ppl could buy their parts. Some ppl cared, others didn't. Its a moot argument because its so easy to get a VIN (but not to discuss anything not legal).
- I did the math several times and the sum of the options is MORE than your $7K. Problem is, its bling and not performance parts so it didnt appease the performance ppl.
