I saw this thread when it first started and after upsetting others in the past, decided that I couldn't say anything nice so I didn't say anything at all. . .
But now that we are on 13 pages and have sent the original poster fleeing from this site, I remember a note I once found on the ground in a parking lot.
It said "If you $&%# like you park, you'll never get it in!"

I can't imagine why someone would think that was OK.

I'm fanatical about parking carefully, but would never take up two spaces --it's obnoxious. I'd rather park in a remote spot and walk than run the risk of door dings. Haven't taken delivery of my Mini yet, but my '94 Mercedes hasn't had a single door ding. But I'm willing to make sacrifices -- I drive farther than necessary to go to a supermarket with better parking options than the one closest to me.

I'm fanatical about parking but never take two spots (and never would). I like to walk a bit to get where I'm going anyway, so I'll park way out in the lot. In busier lots I can almost always find a spot next to a landscaping barrier and edge right against it. The MINI is so small that even if someone parks next to me I'm still not going to get dinged.

And no, I've never parked that way. And I am lazy, I will park as close as I can. But I do find myself avoiding Trucks and SUVs. I feel like those are disasters waiting to happen.

Well, I did NOT read it all, but I will say that I really dislike this every time I see it. I've never keyed anyone for it - the one and only time I did that was when a car literally parked so close to my motorcycle that he pushed it half off the kickstand, nearly toppling it (grrr), but it's monstrously arrogant.
I just park in the rear of crowded lots - usually there's at least one or two nice Jags, Audis, BMWs ot other shiny cars back there, and you KNOW none of them are going to ding you. If you worry about your car, park in back and take 50 extra steps to the door, already.
Things to avoid like the plague: SUVs (kids have no freaking clue and those doors weigh like 6,000 lbs), 2-door, American sedans like the Impala with loooooong doors (one gust of wind and you're toast) and anything with rust - of the owner of that car can't be bothered to take care of his/her car then they're not gonna care about yours.
PS- You DO know that there's nothing stopping anyone from parking right alongside you when you do this, ALSO splitting two spots, right? I had a friend with a true beater - literally more rust than paint, with a railroad tie for a rear bumper and 2-foot holes under the seats (you could see the road whizzing past beneath you, Flintstones-style), and he used to park like INCHES from people's doors whenever he saw this, so close that they had to get into the car from the passenger side. Talk about funny, watching people come out and nearly have a heart-attack when they saw that heap sitting next to their baby.

Has anyone mentioned that taking two spots is not a smart idea?????
The "key" is to park strategically and not draw the attention of the knuckle-draggers. For this very practice, my GTI was keyed and another time someone unscrewed a valve core from a wheel and placed it nicely on the ground. I just happened to have a valve stem key and a can of fix-a-flat in my toolbox. But it was also POURING that day.
To be sure, there are lower level humans among us.
