Yah, and I can't believe I read them all....I don't know what's more pathetic, the idea of taking up 2 stalls, or me having read 12.5 pages of a post about how much people don't like other people who take up 2 stalls. Reality PC at its best.

Best thread I read in a long time. I need a life....

I saw this thread when it first started and after upsetting others in the past, decided that I couldn't say anything nice so I didn't say anything at all. . .

But now that we are on 13 pages and have sent the original poster fleeing from this site, I remember a note I once found on the ground in a parking lot.

It said "If you $&%# like you park, you'll never get it in!"

Parking that that, you WILL eventually get keyed. And probably not just keyed, but some rude word scratched into your paint.

Yep, and it's easy enough to park in a way to keep door dings away without taking up two spaces.

I can't imagine why someone would think that was OK.

Oh I cant stand it when people park like that. It drives me crazy. I would never harm a MINI, but what if...lol jk.

But on a serious note, park out farther away from the building where no one parks. Or on the street. Just dont take up 2 spots.

Door Ding Free,

My friend, something perhaps worse than door dings or even keying is having your license plate stolen.... My condolences on your loss !!

I'm fanatical about parking carefully, but would never take up two spaces --it's obnoxious. I'd rather park in a remote spot and walk than run the risk of door dings. Haven't taken delivery of my Mini yet, but my '94 Mercedes hasn't had a single door ding. But I'm willing to make sacrifices -- I drive farther than necessary to go to a supermarket with better parking options than the one closest to me.

Ladies and gentlemen, submitted for your approval. The Saturday before Christmas, lost in the parking lots of America, you find a car taking two spots. That noise you hear, that bile rising in your throat. The next stop: The Parking Rage Zone!

Total BMW mentality bulls***. Egotistical behaviour.
I too adore how clean the MINI is from the sill down, but that's just giving Motorers a tarnished reputation.

I'm fanatical about parking but never take two spots (and never would). I like to walk a bit to get where I'm going anyway, so I'll park way out in the lot. In busier lots I can almost always find a spot next to a landscaping barrier and edge right against it. The MINI is so small that even if someone parks next to me I'm still not going to get dinged.

That is hilarious!!

And no, I've never parked that way. And I am lazy, I will park as close as I can. But I do find myself avoiding Trucks and SUVs. I feel like those are disasters waiting to happen.

Wow, read this when when it was two pages long, now it's got a life of its own. I personally will find other alternative to avoid door dings than taking up two spots

Well, I did NOT read it all, but I will say that I really dislike this every time I see it. I've never keyed anyone for it - the one and only time I did that was when a car literally parked so close to my motorcycle that he pushed it half off the kickstand, nearly toppling it (grrr), but it's monstrously arrogant.

I just park in the rear of crowded lots - usually there's at least one or two nice Jags, Audis, BMWs ot other shiny cars back there, and you KNOW none of them are going to ding you. If you worry about your car, park in back and take 50 extra steps to the door, already.

Things to avoid like the plague: SUVs (kids have no freaking clue and those doors weigh like 6,000 lbs), 2-door, American sedans like the Impala with loooooong doors (one gust of wind and you're toast) and anything with rust - of the owner of that car can't be bothered to take care of his/her car then they're not gonna care about yours.

PS- You DO know that there's nothing stopping anyone from parking right alongside you when you do this, ALSO splitting two spots, right? I had a friend with a true beater - literally more rust than paint, with a railroad tie for a rear bumper and 2-foot holes under the seats (you could see the road whizzing past beneath you, Flintstones-style), and he used to park like INCHES from people's doors whenever he saw this, so close that they had to get into the car from the passenger side. Talk about funny, watching people come out and nearly have a heart-attack when they saw that heap sitting next to their baby.

and another thing... our cars are so much smaller than the norm that if you did squeeze up against the planter you would be leaving LOTS of room... besides the parking lot looks deserted so why bother with those kinds of tactics?? i disapprove as well...

Has anyone mentioned that taking two spots is not a smart idea?????

The "key" is to park strategically and not draw the attention of the knuckle-draggers. For this very practice, my GTI was keyed and another time someone unscrewed a valve core from a wheel and placed it nicely on the ground. I just happened to have a valve stem key and a can of fix-a-flat in my toolbox. But it was also POURING that day.

To be sure, there are lower level humans among us.

IMHO taking up two spots qualifies one as a knuckle-dragger or lower level human.
