I get the impression that BMW is targeting a pretty young, primarily male audience. However, everyone I know who is interested in getting a Mini is over 40 (the male part still stands though). Our dealer here in Denver reports similar results. Not that I am trying to pry or anything, but I would love to find out if my little snapshot of the Mini market is right on target or skewed. Any ideas out there as to how we might conduct a poll?

Great idea! I just added a poll on the home page to ask just this very question. Given that MINI was targeting 1/3 of all sales of MINIs in the US to be S models and demand appears to be more on the order of 2/3...it should be interesting to see if the demographic target is correct.

I think the Mini may be the answer to world peace. Amagine if one were given to a suicide bomber--he could change his mantra from "Let's Murder" to "Let's Motor" He would have something to live for, and all the people who would be smiling at him and the car would make him rethink his negative opinions of the world.
Our dealer told us there is no real demographic for this car--more a psycho-graphic of folk who just like something different. We have had everyone from musclecar drivers to school kids hoot and hollar about ours, even the 4 wheel drive redknecks seem to like it. We have had people follow us home to see it, been unable to find our waitress because she was in the parking lot looking at it, old people and teenagers etc. Even our Australian Shepard likes it.!!

What a great post! Is the waitress tale really true?

Perhaps your dealer is right. My mother-in-law's 82 yr old "boyfriend" was wowed by the Mini when I took him to visit our local dealer on Easter Sunday. He said that perhaps he had better get on the wait list real soon, then laughed and said that at his age you had to squeeze in as much fun as you could, and the Mini looked like a lot of fun!!

This is my AARP year. . .50! I had a British Green/White roof MINI when I lived in Buckinghamshire in the '70s. Though it was an 850cc, it was great on those "B" roads from Oxan to Bucks. My British Green/White roof MINI Cooper has a June delivery with Crown MINI of Richmond, VA. Though I drove 'em both, I'm too immature to own a MINI Cooper S. . . I'd have a dozen tickets within an hour. It's gonna be great dodging the National Park police on the Colonial Parkway this summer! The Terror of Williamsburg! Oh, my wife says it'll look great next to her PT Cruiser!

I had a 1275 mini back in the early 70's.. strickly a SCCA race car. Right hand drive. Loved it! When I saw the new MINI at the auto show in Toronto last year, I said, I have got to have one. Now I do. 52 years old but feel 25 again!

I have had 4 Minis over the years; from a 998 to a 970 ex-factory car, to a 1275, and a 1293 race car. The most I ever paid for one was $1500, including race prep Minilites, and a spare motor and gearbox. As such, I am reluctant to pay $20,000 for an S, much less, $30,000 with all the junk they are throwing on them and the markup they are getting. I am 54 years old and my "main" thing has become Alfas and Italian small displacement sports-racers of the 1950s

Yes!! It's true. Oh, more fun. My wife and I stuffed 50# of pottng soil (yes, it was in a bag) 2 flats of flowers, 100 feet of gardenhose, 6 bags of groceries2 bags of dog food, several dog toys and the two of us in it also. I guess we won't miss the race van at all until I get back into the racing motorcycle thing again. This car is so much fun, I can hardly stand it.
