No wait a minute

I think that if you do your research you will find West Coast dealers without the markup. Not everyone out here is a crook.

paid MSRP + shipping + PDI + taxes.

Got a t-shirt, floor mats and a courier satchel.

Could have probably got a few thou off an '05 the dealer had in stock, but wanted the '06.

Same here...

However, because I shot for the moon with my MINI order (I effectively doubled the base price of the MCS cabrio with the full JCW treatment, NAV, rear bike rack, all the packages, and almost everything else but the aero kit...) they threw in TWO sets of floor mats (carpet for summer and rubber for winter) AND a glove box organizer.... I think that is about the best one can do on a new '06 you are ordering from the factory.

Got Lucky

I just got an '06 chili red convertible earlier this month with nothing added other than CVT and CD changer for about $2K less than MSRP. It was a Dr. Pepper prize that the winner sold to a motorcycle dealership here in Texas. I saw it on eBay and traded my two motorcycles for it. I was feeling my safety luck was about to run out on the bikes and the Mini convert. was as close as I could come to a bike on 4 wheels! It had 200 miles on it. I just passed the break in period this weekend and having a blast. Even after coming off a BMW sport touring bike and a Harley Ultra Classic, the base engine, CVT and base leatherette seats are plenty "get up and go" and "hold on baby" for almost anyone, me included. I did have to add the "safety chrome" roll hoop covers though. Some habits die hard.

Classic MINI had about 20 bonus units on the lot 2 weeks ago (as a reward for extraordinary sales from corporate, I have never seen so many new MINIs) and would bet that you could get a real nice discount on them if you asked. They would be pre-price increase units also.

Mini prices

I live in California and most of the dealers here charge a $2900 -3000 surcharge. If you want to order a special model from one of the non- surcharge dealers, thier allotment for special built cars is booked up until far into the future.

I ordered a Mini S Convertible from Mini of Murray outside Salt Lake City. All done by email at list price. The car is made and now in Long Beach. It's taken about 6 weeks. I suggust you email dealers in smaller out of the way towns and try to deal with them.

I can fly to SLC for about $200.00 and come out ahead, or have it transported for $800 to my house.

This is my wife's car and very excited. Bob M.

Made an appointment with Momentum. She spent 5 mins talking to me passed me off to someone else, a reception no less. The test drive was 10mins around the beltway. Had no answers to any of my questions. I went to a dealer in my home state of LA. The guy spent about 30 mins walking around explaining every feature. Spent about 30 mins driving various models.

Guess where I bought?

And he is still there selling cars.

Dont get me wrong, I would have paid sticker. In the grand scheme, $600 aint much. But I believe if you called them(habberstad) you too could get a discount.
I ordered my 05 MCS in 10/04 to be one of the 1/05 builds due to some option changes MINI was adding. Dealt with Gus Beyes at Habberstad MINI. $500 off MSRP right up front. No games, straight forward to deal with. Shipped it cross country to WA to avoid the wait of 9-12 from the only 2 dealers in the NW which sell at MSRP + their prep fees. The biggest hassle was getting a car transporter to go out on to Long Island, NY to ship the car. Would buy from Habberstad again just wish I could get my service through them.

SouthBay MINI in Torrance doesn't have a mark-up. I am not sure what their wait times are. However, if you join Club C3, they're a sponsor of ours and give preferential treatment to us. Check with Richard Lin (Octane Guy) for the particulars.

Once again I must ask: What preferential treatment does C3 get?

I don't think "crook" is the right word. The dealer spends big $$$$ on land, a building, etc. (I wonder what they pay for insurance). I know some of the So. CA dealers buy MINIs back east at MSRP, ship them out, and then add a profit to the car so it IS over MSRP. I look at it as a service so I don't have to get it from back east, have it shipped, and go to the DMV, etc. Just my .02 worth.

I too, have recently plunged...

I'm another one of the Northern California buyers, and I recently went through calling all the dealerships. The ones without markup that I were interested in were Mini of Murray, Classic Mini, and Mini of the Hamptons. (East Bay Mini and South Bay Mini both had longer waiting lists, these three were all Feb Production and March delivery when I was ordering a week or so ago) All had great service and were extremely helpful, but I simply asked for their fees.

Mini of Murray had a 330 dollar paperwork fee, and shipping was about 500-800 from Utah.

Classic Mini had about a 150 dollar paperwork fee, and shipping was about 1300-1800, or less if I searched around. Classic also gives some freebies I think.

Mini of the Hamptons had a 65 dollar paperwork fee, and offered to try to fit me with one of their current production orders if any were similar to my spec. Also, they offer 500 dollar shipping coast-to-coast (notice front page of NAM).

Needless to say, Mini of the Hamptons was my choice and I got Week 7 production (Feb. 13), altho the shipping may take up to 2 weeks from NY.

Hope I have been some help.

Deals are out there. I ordered my MCS a few weeks ago for what works out to about $1500 UNDER MSRP, or $500 over Invoice. The dealer still makes money on the deal.

Deals like this are usually only available to those who are friends of the General Manager

I live in N. California and ordered my wife a '06 S Convertible, as she was very particular on what color and equipment she wanted.

Most of the dealers here want a $2999.00 surcharge for cars on the lots or to order their allotment is used up so it takes months to every get one.

I ordered and bought one from Mini of Murray, Utah, No surcharge and 6 weeks delivery for our special order.

It was all done by email and I am flying to pick it up, $209.00 and drive it back for a total of around $400.00. Shipping it would have been $525.00 with a 10 day or more wait to be picked up at dealer.

The sales person was Debby Linge and all was done by email. She will pick me up at the airport and I can check to see the car is correct and working fine before heading home.

I recommend they highly. Bob Merriam

Dealers

If you reread the posting on buying my car in SLC, it was because the California dealers that did't charge the surcharge, had used up thier allotted orders. So to order one, it would take a long time to actually get your car.

I found a dealer that hadn't used up the allottment and got it built and delivered in about 6 weeks. That's eaxactly waht they told me before I ordered it. Bob M.

PS.I fly to SLC tomorrow to pick it up.

Don't know where you are, but I'm calling BS on this one. I had a conversation with a friend two weeks ago who used to be a GM at the BMW/MINI dealer group where I bought my car. He said that MINI sales were basically propping up the smaller BMW store that they share property with. Even employees pay MSRP there, the dealership owners see no reason to leave money on the table when they can sell their full allotment every month. He went on to say how some dealers in busy markets (i.e. SoCal) would even buy cars from smaller dealers at MSRP to resell. I can believe maybe $500 off to clear away a car that's been sitting on a lot, or end of the month deal, but I see no incentive for a dealer to sell a car for $500 over invoice on an order. Hate to be a #%$@, but let's see a scan of the purchase order.

I'm fine with paying MSRP personally, but I have a big problem with sales managers low balling my trade in and trying to charge $150/hr labor for dealer option installs, then expect me to be happy because they've offered me the chance at the "privellege" of buying a car from them.

I know there's good demand for the MINI, and with good reason, but these guys need to get a little perspective. My local dealer only has 4 or 5 MCS in inventory but I can go 75 miles up the interstate and have a choice of 45 total MINIs and 25 MCS on the lot according to their online inventory.

Sorry just feeling a little aggravated today

cheers
I got $500 off the MSRP - some showrooms have big inventory and are looking to move them!!

That said, when we bought our Focus (previous car), we thought we were getting such a deal with all the discounts, but when we traded it in for the Mini, and I started looking at the Blue Book Value, I started to slowly and rhythmically bang my head on the desk... I don't think that will happen with our Mini

By the way, I got great service at Cincinnati Mini, and was amazed at the choice - they have over 20 on the floor with every spec level you could imagine!

I think it really depends where you live - Mini's are hotter in some places than others. I have spoken to a few people who paid over MSRP a while back. Now they see the 06's which are selling at or below list and quite honestly they are a bit jealous!!

These discounts are not B.S. I got a big discount off MSRP on a January delivery (my MA asked me not to publicize it). MINI seemed to really push production at the end of 05 and there are MANY bonus units on the lots here in the east. I think the bubble may burst with the new 07's and the increase in production. It has already happened to Harley with their increased production and I don't think you will see the incredible retained value going forward as we have seen in the past. Just enjoy the motoring.

Okay, so let me get this straight....there are many bonus units sitting on lots....dealers need to get rid of them....yours offers a smokin' deal...then tells you not to tell anyone else about it? I guess he's content to sit on all of the others? Something about internet marque forums makes everyone want to think they got the "best deal," and yet I rarely see the paperwork to back up the claims. This has nothing to do with resale, there just hasn't been any real need for BMWNA to discount or put incentives on these cars. No employee purchase program, no rebates to consumer or dealer, mediocre finance/lease rates, just find it hard to believe that suddenly everything's changed.
