What is your best gas mileage?

Recently I did economy run try with my 03-MCS. I know it's a stupid idea because it really distract a part of motoring fun. But I was also curious about my MCS capability.

Trial result has been measured after the consumption of one full tank gas. I reset my on board computer at the gas statation before start.
I did everything possible for the economy run.
At the end of the trial of one tank, my computer said 34.0 mpg.

What is your best gas mileage on your cpu so far???

That is fantastic mileage for an MCS! Best I have ever had was on long road trips when the computer said 28mpg. . .

I'm guessing you did most of this on the highway?

My 34.0 mpg has been recorded mainly through my daily 28 miles to and from work for about 2 weeks period. It includes about 15 lights in the city and 55 mph speed limit highway.

I think it's a pretty good record...
One of the good things you can learn from that would be,
1) delicate gas pedal work and rev control
2) perfect rev matching technique while shifting
3) complete vehicle control by tachometer
4) proactive driving attitude to eliminate excess gas
5) appropreate tire management including pressure
6) maintain "going my way" attitude whoever may chase you
7) Overall mind control/dicilpline to be patient as a perfect civilian driver

Well, I decided not to continue after the trial because it's so frastrated and bad for my metal health, frankly speaking.
Probably it's worth to do it once in a life time...but I bet you can learn a lot!

Happy motoring!

I got 35.5 on my second tank of gas in my MC, best since has been 34.9. Anybody else get better mileage when they vary the rpm's and don't cruise at highway speed for extended periods of time?

Mileage

I find that cold starts kill mileage. I've been able to keep mine at over 50 mpg while driving about 1/2 the length of the state of Indiana (South Bend to Indpls, US31), but it was non-stop for most of the trip, 50-55 mph, and was not a full tank. I can be in the high 30s when I shut it off, and the cold start the next morning takes it to the low 30s. I typically average 32-34 for a full tank, but don't lead-foot it all that much. When I want to drive that way, I do it in my "Small Kart" (125cc shifter).

Really? That's terrible! Is this Yucca posting about the S, perhaps?

I get about 28mpg in a MCS automatic in mixed driving to and from work. On the highway I've seen about 32mpg. One time I had the range over 400 miles on the highway.

When it comes to gas mileage, how we step on a gas pedal will decide almost everything. That's what I learned through my economy running trial. Obviously automatic transmission has more loss than manual except Audi's DSG.

Happy Motoring!

The computer always reads high - compute the mileage yourself from one fillup to the next for greater accuracy.

On a recent trip the computer said I was getting 35, but when I did the math manually at the bump - 31.7...

I think maybe my computer is in UK gallons...

But I've found that my 03 MCS with Promini intake and 15% Helix pulley gets much better mileage crusing at 65mph - I just have a hard time keeping it at that speed it seems...

You are right. The cpu always reports about 9% higher number than the actual calculation. I'm not sure why, but for the comparison purpose that'll be OK as long as measurement base is the same.

Well, on the other hand, wait a minute...that means, "Range" miles which I believe is calcurated by MPG on the computor could always show 9% longer range....

Am I wrong or not?

Happy Motoring!

Calculating manually, best mileage on an average of 3 tanks was 31.0 in my 05 MCS. OBC reads about 1 mpg high in my car.

With 7000 miles now and never having reset the computer - overall average is 26.3. I did average a smidgeon under 30 mpg on a road trip in September. Calculated. Mostly highway at about 70 mph.

So far with about 1600 miles on Merlin I'm averaging about 33.2 mpg as of yesterday when I checked the computer. Most of the driving as been on Rt 80 at about 75-80 miles per hour with some traffic

The best I saw was 26 and change of mix driving. I guess 50-50 city and highway. The worst I saw as 20.1 mpg on the second tank of gas . But as I pile on the miles, the MPG seems to get better.

Oh yeah, how do you do your calculations? Me, I fill up the tank (stop at the first click) then re-set the odometer. Then when I fill up the tank again, I divide the miles from the odometer by how many gallons went in.

That's how I do it as well.

39 mpg

with about a 1,000 miles on the car, cruising at 62 for about 300 miles, the computer said 38.6 (with my 15inch holeys on with continental all seasons). i calculated 32 however after fillup.

don't know what to make of that....
