Josh, let me know if you're up in the Tri-cities area and have some time. We'll go run 421 a couple times. It's very much like the Dragon with a couple of very challenging switchbacks thrown in for good measure. The experience is much the same as Deals Gap only without the traffic.

Of course you'll still want to be at MOTD 2006.

This is a popular route once the snow melts.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=sister...5809&t=h&hl=en Hwy 126 west out of Sisters,OR.
We even have a yearly international bicycle race that includes part of this Hwy.

Bearwallow Mountain road from Old Clear Creek ( in Edneyville - near Hendersonville/Asheville) into Fletcher....or State road 9 from Lake Lure into Black Mountain. Both are great and the first is usually deserted because people around here hate the curves . SR9 sometimes has a little traffic but there are a few long passing spots and the road climbs up high with lots of switchbacks and runs the mountain ridges before 180 degree multiple switchbacks coming into Black Mountain (that's a town).
Enjoy WNC....the MINI was built for roads like these!
