How much for tires?

I've got a set of practically new (280 miles) Dunlops Sport 5000 DSST tires that I put up for sale here in the stuff for sale forum, but had only a few nibbles and not even any offers. So I've put them on eBay, but so far not much action.

How much can I reasonably expect to get for these tires? (195/55 16") In other words, if you wanted to buy a set of run-flats, how much would you actually pay for these from a private seller rather than buying them from TireRack for $150 each new. Your answer does not consitute an offer - I won't bother anyone with that, I'm just curious what ya'all think. If you want to make me an offer, PM or email me.

I'd rather sell them to a NAM member than on eBay, I just don't know how to price them. I figured that $350 was a good price.

Help!

Thanks,

Michael

You'll run into a couple of things...

First is that the run-flats suck for performance.
Second is the shipping.

At $350 for the set of four, you're within spitting distance of the Yoko AVS-100 or whatever it is. A good entry level performance tire.

I sold off a set of Pirelli run flats on S-Lites a while ago. $200 for them all and they sold. I had another set of wheels with tires (Toyo Proxis T1-s) that I sold for $35 to $50 a wheel plus shipping (~$20 each) and I still have the most skuffed one in my driveway....

Not sure if this is helpfull. If someone wants replacements for stock due to a blow out or the like, you should do pretty good. But other than that, they're probably slow movers. Search in teh Marketplace to see who sold what... Good luck!

I sold my stock 16" 5-star wheels with the Dunlop SP5000 Run-flats (with only 3000 miles and in excellent condition) for $350 just about a month ago.

I sold my 16" runflats for $300.00 including shipping. They only had 20 miles.

I would think that most people who are going to buy used (even bearly used) tires are more likely to do it if they are also buying a set of rims from the seller. Unless they are really tight on budget, OR you've got a brand or size that is difficult to get.

Otherwise most people will still have to take them somewhere to get mounted. And if you do that, the shop that mounts them isn't going to give you any sort of warranty etc.

I guess if you had a friend at the shop, or could mount them yourself it would be a good way to save a few bucks.

FWIW, I got a set of 16" X-lite take offs (incl wheels) for $400. Sometimes they go for more, but that seems to be a recurring price. They might be more in demand in another year or so after folks have worn through theirs. Those that wear through them quickly will likely upgrade to better performance tires. To answer your question - $200-300.

Kind of sucks doesn't it? I wasn't thinking when I ordered the Sport Pack for my car knowing full well I was going to ditch the S-lites and runflats as soon as I got the car. Would have been better off ordering the options a la carte. As is, I've got a set of perfect S-lites with 42 mile tires on them in my garage that are essentially worthless. I figure I'll keep them for emergencies or sell them off one at a time if someone needs one to replace a damaged one.

Yes, it does suck. Thanks all for the comments everyone, keep 'em coming!

I guess I'll set my sights a little lower. Poor Santa won't have anything but coal for the kiddies this year.

What did you do? Switch out barely used runflats for non runflats?

Exactly. I was looking for a little bit more performance and a softer ride. Turns out that the Dunlops weren't so bad afterall... They're not like the older run-flats with the middle support ridge. My new conventional tires do ride a bit better, but for the money, I probably should have just kept the Dunnies. Oh well, live and learn, I guess.

If you drive hard...

just leave em in the garage. Then when the Mini needs new shoes, put the run flats on, and treat 'em rough. You'll burn through them in less than a year.

I too only had hindsite to tell me that the only good part of the S-Lites was the look. If I'd known more then, I wound't have paid for them, and bought some aftermarket rims/tires with the savings....

I was going to post the same advice as Dr Obnxs

Only someone who is completely sold on the run-flat idea will pay a good price for them. You'll get the most value out of them if you just re-use them someday.

I've been wanting a set of nearly new runflats to put on a set of x-lites I have in the garage, but I only want them for emergency use or for some future long road trip. For it to be worth my while, I'd only want to spend about $200 for a set including mounting them on my wheels. I don't necessarily expect to find a set for that kind of a low-ball price, but any more $$$ and I'd just get a new set of performance tires instead. . . .
