Near Flame-Out . . . or not.

So, I hop in the Mini for the afternoon school run and as I leave the neighborhood, I notice the fuel gauge in the red - very much in the red! Select "range" on the OBC and get just "--- --- ---". As I turn toward the gas station that's about .5 miles away, I'm trying to remember if the wife said she filled up last night or if I just imagined it. Anyway, after only being able to pump about a gallon, fired up and the gauge showed full with a range of 302. Anyone else seen this quirk?

Yes, exact same thing happened to me. The fuel gauge would show red, actually it was in the lowest possible spot. Sometimes if I just turned the engine off and on it would correct itself, but later on nothing would help it. So off to the dealer I went, and surely enough it was a faulty sensor in the gas tank. Replaced under warranty.

This just happened to me this evening....gauge is in the red and the tank is full. I am glad I found this thread to give me an idea of what the problem is....I have an appointment at the dealer in a week!

Well...after not driving the MCS for a week, I started it up and the gas gauge is now working! Hope it stays this way. I really don't want to have to drive all the way to the dealer and have to leave the car...

How were you able to go a week without driving your MINI?

I usually reset my trip odometer when I fill up. If I noticed that I had driven 300 miles and the gauge showed 1/2 full, I'd be suspicions. . .

The exact thing happened to me, see this post:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ight=gas+gauge

It's a faulty sensor. Take it in and have it replaced under warranty.

Me too, every fill up, which I almost always do at 1/2 a tank.

It was clean and dry under its car cover and I drove my 4Runner during a few days of clouds, rain and oil-country roads driving I needed to do for biz.
