Hyper vs. Space

I realize that this has probably been discussed to death but I've been away from the forum for awhile, so please cut me some slack. I've also done a search but can't find what I'm looking for.

I'm just about to place an order for an '06 MCS and have it down to either Hyper Blue/Silver or Space Blue/Silver. From what I have seen it appears that the Space Blue might be darker and/or have a bit of green in it. It's a nice color but I don't want anything too dark or understated. The Hyper Blue looks more what I'm looking for but can't tell if it might be too bright.

How do either of these colors compare to Indi Blue? I had an '03 IB/W so that's something that I can at least relate to.

Thanks for your thoughts.

My vote goes to Hyper Blue!!!!

It's a brighter "happier" colour....SpB is a bit more sedate...

It's a bit....ummm....more 'boyant' than Indie Blue...

I have an 06 HyperBlue/White S. Ordered it before I was able to see the space blue (other then the round sample on the board).

Glad I didn't see it, because I would have had a hard time making a choice. Since I picked up the car I've been over to MoS a few times and seen the Space Blue. VERY nice color in person, the sample didn't do it justice.

Hyperblue isn't "bright", but it certainly does catch your eye. Space blue is a nice dark, deep blue.

hyper blue is much more of a 'royal' blue type color... the space blue looked like purple haze to me on the dirty car I drove for a test drive. when it's clean it may look like more of a bright blue, but the space blue is certainly more understated than the hyper blue. it's all subjective. going from IB I'd say hyper blue is 1-2 shades brighter and space blue 2-3 darker.

Hyper blue is certainly closer to IB (though lighter).

The Space Blue is nice but definitely has a greenish hue.

The MCS I saw recently was Space Blue/Silver........to be perfectly honest, I didn't like the silver roof/Space Blue combo. I think many people are ordering the Ag roof because it's the "latest-and-greatest" thing. I'm sure it looks great in combo with certain colours though and, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Blue has always been my facor car color.
I just recieved my 2006 spcae blue last week.It looks better than I expected.Originally I thought it had some purple in it which maybe it does in direct sunlight,I cant tell yet since it has been snowing and raining since I got it.It is darker than hyper blue but it always looks blue and never black, like my Andriatic Blue Range Rover. It does not look like anything that it is presented in the Mini website,it is a very pretty deep gloss blue mettalic.I have seen some pictures posted here but for some reason in real life it look much better, same for the space blue interior.
In my opinion the best blue is the Indi Blue,I would love to have my 2006 in that color but.....

When I ordered, I narrowed it down to PW/B or SB/S with the checkmate package. I ordered the PW because I wasn't able to see the Space Blue in person at that point. About 3 weeks after I ordered my MA called me to say a SB/S w/checkmate was at the dealership so I went to take a look. I absolutely loved it, I really liked that the dash and interior matched, just a thing I have!
To try to describe the difference, the HB is a true blue in my opinion. The Space Blue has a bit more yellow in it, giving it a sea or midnight tone to it. It is a warm blue (that's why I didn't get HB, it's a cold blue). I'm not saying that HB is cold in feeling, I'm talking from my interior designer background, and the value in the 2 blues is pretty different. For example in a north facing room, you would want a warm blue not a cold one.
Anyway, SB didn't strike me as "darker" than the HB, just a different look.

That is what I order and drive right now, just like you see it.
You tell me if that dont look good.....
Once the wheather gets better I will post some pictures.
Originally I wasnt sure about the wheels but now I love them.
The only promblem with the car,is that it turns heads anywhere I go and I would rather be low profile .

gt6,

Hyper Blue is VERY close to Indi Blue... in my opinion, most people (note I said MOST not all) could not tell the difference unless they are side-by-side. As "iroyalwe" said, HB is a little bit lighter than IB... but I have to say that it's VERY slight.

If you loved your Indi Blue, get Hyper Blue. No contest, if IB is your starting point, HB is the closest to it. Don't get me wrong, I think Space Blue is a beautiful color too. My friend Scavenger (here on NAM) lives 5 minutes away from me and just recently got a 2006 MCS, SB/S. Looks gorgeous. But I don't regret HB one bit. I'm originally wanted IB on my MINI when I was thinking of getting one... and I was most disappointed that the color was cancelled. Then I saw that HB was being added, and I was very happy.

I love my SB/S, and I'm not sure about the greenish comments people made; when the sunlight hits the paint it looks almost purple as you look 'down' at the car so you get a gradiant from deep blue down to purple.

In spite of that, though, it sounds like you'd rather the HB which is a great colour. My original build was HB/W.

Although i've never seen space blue in person, hyper blue doesn't really do it for me with the plastic trim around the car. I have a thing for dark blues, and i bet the space blue looks as good in person with the silver roof as it does in pictures...but that's all my opinion.

I loved Electric Blue more than anything But Indi Blue was nice too.

Hyper vs Space

Space is much darker than Indi but is a gorgeous color esp. when combined with the silver.

If you are worried about being to dark you probably should go with the Hyper

Let me get this straight - you have a "thing" for dark blues, you don't like Hyper Blue, but you like Electric Blue more than anything?

...

Yet EB is MUCH lighter than HB.

I guess i should have added that i have a thing for light blues too? I dont like the in betweeners. I can appreciate indy, but i wouldn't own it. I can appreciate hyper blue, but again, i wouldn't own it. I think i'd like it more if the trim was gloss black instead of the plastic.

And as far as silver goes, i think (without seeing it) silver would look better with space blue. (and the 16" 5 spoke wheels as someone else cleverly matched up!)

^^^I'd have to agree based on the assumption that Hyper Blue (brighter/vibrant?) might look best w/ white trim whereas Space Blue (more sultry, moody?) would resonate better w/ silver. All a matter of opinion though.

i might be a bit out of line here..but i don't mean to be..just the way i see it. To me the Hyper Blue is more of a girls color and the darker (more dull) space blue would appeal more to guys. Again, just my view and not meant to knock on anyones choice of color

... but the black plastic trim is the SAME on every MINI, unless you get the chrome... so if you saw an HB with the chrome package, you'd like it?

You know, I used to say the SAME thing about Electric Blue, saakey... baby blue isn't what I saw as "manly" vs. Hyper Blue. At the time I bought my car, Space Blue didn't exist yet. So I have to disagree, of course... my car is by no means "girly". Of course, some would say that WHITE wheels are girly. It's all a matter of perspective... and you know what? After seeing more EB cars, I don't even think that IT is all that girly any more. It's probably because the first MINI I ever got to see up close was an EB MCS, owned by a girl in my neighborhood, who since moved away anyhow.

Works for me, since i'm not much of a girl anyways

Out of the two color choices, a LOT of people like Hyper Blue. A lot. I think you'd get tons of compliments on it... but i think it would look best with a white roof. I just can't picture it with silver.

so not being much of a girl, i take it you lean towards the Space Blue

and as far as silver with Hyper - no, i don't think it works either...maybe black and for sure white, but not silver.

Great input, opinions, etc. I tend to agree with those who think the Hyper Blue would look better with white than silver. If I went with the Hyper Blue I would also consider going with the HB top. I still like the SB with Silver but just not sure if its too dark or not. Got to sleep on it tonight.
