Word is the cops in Sacramento are going to be really cracking down on street racing this summer, and they're going to be handing out lots of tickets to heavily modified cars - loud exhausts, too-dark tints, ride height & wheel width issues. (And of course, driving too fast. )

I'm figuring if my windows aren't tinted (deeper than stock, anyway) the cops can see all my grey hairs and figure I'm not some young punk lookin' for trouble. Just an old fart, having a second (or is it third? Memory fails me) adolescence.

Sacramento is notorious for brutally hot summers, and you see lots of deeply tinted cars around here. I was pleasantly surprised last summer that my baby didn't get as awfully hot as I feared she might, even though she has a sunroof sans roof graphic. I've got whatever the stock tinting is, and I tried to remember to close the sunroof's roller shades whenever I left the car in the sun for a long time. The A/C could still cool the car off pretty quickly. So for interior heat, I don't think tinting is really all that necessary.

As far as body colors go, I like the way deeply tinted windows look with most of them, especially lighter colors like white, yellow, silver, red, electric blue. But BRG is so dark, I think the "untinted" windows look fine. In my (biased) opinion, the BRG needs something to lighten it up - the white wheels, roof, mirror caps, and bonnet stripes make my car look "just right." (IMO, of course.) Don't think I'd like the way tinted windows would look.

I gotta say, though, an all-black, de-chromed MINI with deeply tinted windows looks incredibly sharp, even though I'm not into the whole "bad to the bone" thing. Cop magnet. And street racer magnet.

I personally have never had a problem with windows until very recently. Well maybe it's not the windows, still trying to figure that out. I know it has something to do with speed to.

I have fairly dark windows and I am wondering if I should have them redone to a lighter version in order to help combat the ticket regime. Opinions? - and I know no one here is shy ...
Hey there,

I beleive 27% is the darkest we can go. Thats what I have so all you can do is drive slower

making the MCS look mean is the way to go. To show people these little cars don't play... Yes the cops are mean on tint laws cause they don't want to walk up and not know whats going on inside, but if you respect them, you shouldn't have a problem. Just roll the windows down before the cops come to the car. I have raced a few cars from a roll, and I know what they are thinking, that little car is bad ***... A 03 mustang gt roll, from 50 mph to 90mph i pulled him a car lenght, Tibiron GT v-6 pulled on the interstate from 80mph to 120 and about 3 car lengths. A porshe carrera roll with 2 girls in the car and was on his a$% tight. Soo thats why i want my car to be a MEAN a$$ MCS... Soon i will be adding a My mini exhaust from the cat-back, a M7 16% reduction pulley and a AGS v.3 intake w/heat shield. It should be a BAD a$$ mini then.... Good luck to you guys with the tint... Also before the guy tints the car, put a few samples on the glass and park it in the sun to get a look... If you are paying all that money they should work with you.... Good Luck Spike
