Do the side marker "follow me home" lights turn off after a certain period of time?
Did you mean the "follow me home" lights or the "standing lights"? The "follow me home" lights are activated by flashing the high beams and turn on the low beams and running lights. They will go off on a timer. The "standing lights" are activated with the turn signal and make the side markers go on. They stay on indefinitely and could run down your battery.
DUDE!, I just found the pen holder in the glove box!
De GERMANS tink ov evyting...
It's the small things that put a smile on my face, and although the car is full of really cool things, it was the pen holder that blew my mind!
AMEN!! I found this thread by happy accident- I am selling my '03 MCS to a very good home (I still have 3 other mini's) and was looking for something else entirely. This is the answer to the only concern I had as a seller!!

LOL yikes, we are getting a lot of repeat entries now. :impatient
With Auto headlights: If you start the car in the garage and the lights come on AND you turn on the Front Fog Lights, when you back out of the garage the auto off feature is disabled and the lights stay on even though the ambient sensor is now in daylight.
To stop the dinging when you have the door open and key in the ignition, push the latch in so that it's in the closed position. To close the door, squeeze the door handle. Very handy when cleaning out the car and you want to listen to the radio.

Maybe so, BUT you can turn on the radio and listen to it without putting the key in the switch. To keep the battery from draining, it'll power down in 15 minutes or so...all you need to do is turn it on again.

Yup, you're right. I just tried it. I don't know why I didn't try that earlier today. With my S10 the radio would stay on until you opened a door and I tried that with the MINI. I didn't think to just try turning on the radio. Overthinking things as usual, I guess.
I recently did a rear seat delete and noticed something new. With a rear seat delete you hear a lot more cabin noise, especially when it rains. What I noticed though is that If you press the air recirc button, the cabin noise is drastically reduced. This is especially helpful when it rains because you don't hear the noise of the water in your wheel wells as much but it also helps on a dry day on the highway. For those of you that want to test it out, drive at a constant speed and push recirc on and hear the noise supress and then turn it back off and hear the noise return. Pretty cool

...hmm.. I thought it was for my tire pressure gauge?
i didnt realize that my mini is 1337. (if you dont know what that mean search for it.)
also if you lock the doors with the remote and then wait about 1 minute. then press the lock again a few times, maybe even hold for a few seconds. the interior lights come on. not sure what this could be used for but i found it out by accident.
has anyone noticed that if you unlock your doors w/ the key-remote, and don't open them for awhile, they lock themselves back up? to quote my sister last night, "wow- that was weird."
note: i think it's funny that most f the items on thread are discovered by mistake/accident/happenstance.

My 2003 MC does not do this, but previous cars I've owned have. Makes me a little nervous...a car trying to out think a human ("I know you didn't really mean to unlock me, so I locked myself back up..aren't I clever?" Next it will be "I know you didn't really want to stop at that stop sign...")!

I think the automatic re-locking is one of the options the dealer can enable or disable.
The only time I can think of it being really handy is if you accidentally unlock your doors when you're walking away from the car and put the keyfob in your pocket. Otherwise, if I've unlocked the doors on purpose, it's immediately followed by me getting in the car, so I've never had the opportunity to see them automatically re-lock.
Finally got through this entire post. Great info. On my 05 MCS If I remove the rear lic. plate, then remove the lic. plate bracket, the VIN is on the boot behind the bracket.
