I just ordered the JCW CAI, I figure I'll be ok for a while with the original filter, but I will be looking for a plan "B" come replacement time.

I elected not to try to manufacture the adapter ring, but I did receive a note from one member who bought the K&N filter and concluded that the hose-clamp would squeeze the filter flange onto the airbox well enough to do without an adapter ring.

your mileage may vary, as they say...

I am buying the K&N, I had such a great experience with it a long time ago on my 300ZX TT... the extra surface area has to improve performance and mileage, I would think. I will post my results. Thanks again, Rick!!

I just got the filter, now what do I do? Will it fit into the stock JCW box (I hope!)? I will do some more searching, advice or references to threads appreciated. TIA!

http://myminiparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=ITGJC&cat=7 This is the way I am going once my paper filter(JCW CAI came with) is not longer good. Many of other Pete's customers use it know and only say good things about it. You can call him and He will share all the feedback he's got..I think this a really good option to consider..

woh, those instructions are how to install another... man I wish I were more mechanically inclined, I can fix and build computers all day but I am having trouble deciphering just how to open the airbox to simply install the filter... or maybe it really is not so simple...

EDIT

Nevermind, I figured it out, now I just have to get it back on and takeit out for a spin

what's the trick on getting the hose clamp to close? It's got that wierd snapper dealy and I'd rather keep it stock than get a screw hose clamp (those I wish it was like that stock). Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

Found out, going to have to buy some tools - https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=44650

Why the hose clamp phobia? Hell I'm all about simple and easy I don't want to have to read a 10 step procedure to install a freaking hose clamp. I just bought a 3" $1.5 automotive clamp and I'm done with it.

Just pushed it straight on and used needle-nose pliers to clip the factory funky-clip hose-clamp

One thing that perplexes me is how small the actual air intake hole is on the JCW intake box... seems like that would be the real bottleneck, no?

Its like motor oil or tires IMHO, important consumables worth the cost for what you get from it. Sure I can see that it seems like a lot for what it is but its not hundreds of dollars and, after all, it is a specialized custom item for an optional add-on created for a limited market. I guess I'm just surprised that considering all the random stuff people spend extra money on I so often see people so outraged over the infrequent 80 bux for the JCW air filter.

Anyway, good job on the K&N, enjoy
Well, look at it like this: When I replace the AF, it's usually in conjunction with doing a tune-up. AF, FF, Plugs, etc. None of that is cheap, so if one can drop your total tune-up costs by going with a K&N reuseable AF, so be it!

Ok, I bought 2 3130 for $50 (free shipping and a $5 off special). That is the best price I have ever paid for a K&N anything! I installed mine Wednesday night and it was VERY easy! I was so impressed with the better throttle response and better engine sound that I installed my wife's the next night. I loved her response: "It feels peppier, but I was expecting it to sound a little louder..... no you don't understand I WAS EXPECTING IT TO SOUND LOUDER"

Love the added "pep" and the fact that two filters were half the proce of one OEM paper filter!

JCW Airbox Flap Removal?

Has anybody else removed the flap in their JCW CAI so that it is open all of the time? I've got mine removed and installed a ITG replacement filter.

Mini-Madness has announced a new filter for the JCW airbox. Cleanable K&N-type velocity stack design - looks great.

I installed mine last week. Very easy, except for the OEM clamp on the down tube. I also removed the flap but left the housing intact. My feeling was that moisture and dirt would get into the filter more easily. Not much of an increase in noise and my "butt" dyno sez that it has a wee bit more throttle response.

I had Mini-Madness install this filter for me and do the airbox flapper modification seeing as how I work right around the corner from George's shop. What a difference. If you check out the link above, the testimonial that you can read there is mine. I meant every word, it is really impressive the performance gain you can feel by improving the airflow with this kit. I've had other sports cars but the MCS w/JCW is the first I've had that responds so positively by just replacing the chincy paper filter with the high-airflow K&N style filter. I definitely recommend this product. Mini-Madness rocks!!!
