Baltimore area owners

Hi,

In another thread there's been discussion of starting a group for Baltimore area owners. If you're in the area, post here if you're interested so we know if it's worth it.

Thanks!

Paul

What would be the point? DCMM covers Baltimore. The only reason, I believe, not many of the runs have been into the upper part of the state is because no one is willing to set them up since a lot of people come from No. Va or Annapolis who are active. I would suggest you DCMM and become proactive for events in the Balt area?

BTW, I'm not trying to dissuade you from starting another club but only pointing out I see no point in it since one already exists.

Hey Paul...He makes a good point here and it's basically the reason I joined the DC club. Although it would be nice to have members in one central (Charm ) city, it may not actually be strong enough (people wise) to support such an Idea.

Oh, I think it may be very strong ... lots of ppl in Columbia/Ellicott City area but you got to be proactive and want to participate and organize things. Where do you think all those cars went sold by Towson? To No. Va?

From what I can see, DCMM is mostly MOS or Tate buyers, very few from Towson. All ya gotta do is get the Towson ppl to join up. Towson had a MINI meetup going for a little while but no one wants to step up and run the mtgs.

funny you should mention it that way. It seems that in other parts of the world, Columbia is know as a complete gang infested area and very dangerous. I just laugh at these people and say, I guess you've never been to east L.A.

I don't know - the DC club seems to be too broad. I hate how Baltimore gets included in the "DC Metro area" scheme with everything. It's its own city, dammit! Sure, maybe the club won't be as big as DC's, but it should at least be a sub-chapter of sorts. After all, I'm sure a lot of people (like saakey) live up in Bmore, but joined the DC club because there's nothing else local. If one gets created locally, I'm sure people will jump out of the woodwork.

DC is Northern VA, DC, and Maryland. I think it says DC only because DC is in the middle. I'm sure people living 60 miles south of DC have come to DCMM events because I have seen them.

However, you want your own club, Like I said, I wasn't trying to dissuade you from trying. Its not like there is some giant MINI Deity that rules over all the MINI clubs.

Hehe.. Ellicott city is definitely closer to Bmore than Wash DC. I dunno though, maybe that guy's onto something. Obviously the DC one has, what, thousands of members? We could probably scrounge up 20 in the area.

For now I say let's not necessarily start an OFFICIAL club, but I might make a website for Charm City Minis cause I'm bored

sheesh columbia ghetto?!?! only in pockets... that seems to be true everwhere though. I went to Harpers Choice Middle then Centennial H.S. This Paul character doesnt ring any bells, but that doesnt mean we havent crossed paths. Regardless...I dream of motoring in MD all the time.

well i guess you can say Columbia has it's ghettos - but you're right, what town/city doesn't anymore. Okay, so you don't know a Paul...how about did you ever date a girl named Adrienne who was good friends with a Allison Smith? I swear I know you from somewhere..or maybe it's your twin .

Hmmm...well, how does a Baltimore interest group/chapter/local sound? There are advantages to being part of a bigger group, but on the other hand I recognize the Baltimoreans' need to not be lumped in with DC (even though I'm a CA boy).

Hey, I live in Severna Park, and have been a member of DCMM almost since the inception of the club.
Part of the fun of the "Metro" part of DCMM, is the driving I've done just to get to the events...

You're right, tho'....Bawlmer isn't DC.

I think that DCMMs membership roles are a bit over 200 active members.

Yup! We try and have at least one driving event per month year-round, except for winter. And as the former events coordinator, I tried to keep the events scattered around the greater DC area. For example, we had events last year in western VA, northern VA, around Ellicott City, around the battlefields in northwest Maryland, and the area south of Annapolis.

In fact, there's an event planned right now (first driving event of 2006!) for April 8th!

Besides the driving events, we keep ourselves busy with breakfast, lunch, and dinner get-togethers, tech days, and of course holiday meetings during December.

See the DCMM forum for more details!

OK . . . so not only do we start a Balto. Cooper Club - let's also have a subdivision of that! It'll be for those owners who actually live INSIDE the city limits!

YO! East Side RULES! Eeewwwwww . . . . SCARY!!!!

Cool, I lived in Havre de Grace for 13 years before moving to FL. I worked at APG Edgewood area. we still have family in Baltimore and make the trip a few times a year.

If I lived up there still my vote would be for a Baltimore club. I never liked being grouped in with DC.
