Rocks!

I just picked up my new baby Friday night. I've been enjoying the hell out of it. Got the Alta CAI on, put on my Euro Parcel shelf. A buddy of mine stop by last night to see the car. So I took him up the street for a little demo.

A quarter mile before I get to my development, we hear a sound that can only be described as someone shearing in half 6 inch thick tempered glass. We had no idea what it was.

I thought perhaps the rear window shattered? No... too loud. My buddy said he thought I hit something. He said it sounded like something ripped off the side skirt! "I felt it!" he said!

Get it home and look in the light, I have 3 ding dents down to metal on the roof, 2 mars on my sunroof, 2 on the windshield, 3 on the pass door, two on the rear quarter glass, and three on the rear quarter.

I have not been outside yet to see the severity of the side of my car, I'm almost afraid to.

It HAD to be some kids in the woods -- must have thrown a hadfull of rocks at the car as I drove past.

My car was exactly 29 hours in my possesion. All I could do was file a police report. Not really looking to have whole panels repainted already.

I'll update this when I find out more.

Sorry to hear that. If I posted what I would do they would lock this in a heartbeat.

I know what you mean. I would have had alot more satisfaction in beating the culprit unconcious.

I suppose I'll have to get an estimate on the damages myself. Nationwide never sent an adjuster out tome before. Don't know. Maybe I shoul dcall them today instead of waiting for my agent on Monday? Any reccomendations?

I'd really like to see if I can get the side of the car repaired with spotwork, rather than painting the whole panels. Anyone have experience there?

The other decisions is do I replace my passender windows.... front and back. Or do I polish out the marks left by the impact? Ugh.... I should not be having to deal with this.....

I had a hit-and-run on my passenger door just behind the front fender, there is a brace at the front of the door and it was just behind the brace, and a local shop here fixed it "as good as new" with a lifetime guarantee on paint and work. If you would like I could e-mail you a couple of photos but I can't put them here.

From my experience with the cars I have owned, "Spot Painting" would not be the correct way to do it.

Re-paint the entire sections, as well as blend or "feather" to match the areas surrounding.

As far as the windows, change them!

You are correct, you should not have to deal with this ... give it to a great bodyshop in your area, and let them worry about it.

Btw, Any good body shop will not Spot paint.

Hey! I am so sorry to hear about that! I really hope you get everything good as new soon! I couldn't imagine how you must have felt/feel. I dont even have my MINI yet (arriving mid-may ) and I already know I am going to be paranoid and baby it like crazy! From many little accidents caused by people talking on cell phones and not paying attention I know simple painting can get pretty expensive. Hope you can get everything fixed for a decent price. Good luck!

Oh trust me..... I'm not taking it well. I'm just glad I added rental coverage to my insurance. I'll try to post some pics tommorow..... of the car like I was planning on and the damage.

As for the glass replacement..... I guess I just feel the less that gets messed with the less the Mini will be "violated". But you're right..... I really should have everything replaced to the way it "was" 29 hours old.

I counted 13 rock impacts. I washed it today and babyed the hell out of her. God it looks good. On one side anyway.

I think I'm going to call the dealer tommorow and see who they use for repairs. Familiarity with the car has to be a bonus.

I just hate the fact that I'll be getting paint lines where they tape off. It's a new car for gods sake.

UPDATE: It is confirmed a "comprehensive claim", and will only cost me $50.00. Thankfully I had added rental coverage back a ways. I have an appointment this saturday with an estimator.

Lo siento

I find myself grinding my teeth on your behalf.

The whole idea of a brand new car staying new for so short a period:

Sorry about the news man....I bought my 2002 MCS in 2005. The car was cherry, Mint condition no dings dent anywhere.. Of course Hurricane Wilma decided to send a "Do Not Enter sign right into the Drivers side fender. I looked into "paintless dent removal" they might be able to tell you something about it at the dealer...Unfortunately since it is a 'Crease" they cannot do it paintless on my car (see pics). Tommorrow I'm taking the car in to be repaired after a 6 month wait (backlog for hurricane damaged cars)...Wish me luck and I'll post pics when Caligula gets out of the shop...
Good luck man, keep an eye out for those idiots..

Ouch on many accounts.

Well, I took a few photos of the car and the damage. The pictures really do not do justice to the damage. I suggest the larger versions of the photos to get a better look. The car is a bit wet so they really dont stand out as well, especially against the Hyper Blue. All photos are in my gallery. I would insert them but havn't quite got the jist of it.

Oh what a hell I live in.

On another note the Alta intake is awesome. The throttle response has definately improved. And you HAVE to love the supercharger whine. I'll be tackling the Aero Grill mod hopefully sometime this weekend. Euro Parcel shelf was a biatch to say the least. But it's in and done.

The trip do work was most enjoyable. I have a u turn that I need to do in order to get home..... MY GOD THIS THING HAS A SMALL TURNING RADIUS!

Thanks!

I'll update the gallery with some better shots this weekend. I'm taking my wife on a trip to the second tallest waterfall in Maryland (weather providing) and theres a great spot not far from there for some great shots.
