R50/53 2003 MCS dealer programmable options

This is the actual computer printout from my 01/24/2003 MCS, transcribed verbatum. I have Xenon's and no sunroof. Explanations as I understand them are at the bottom. If you find this helpful, please reply and bump it to the top for others.

Switch back when stationary (active)
Acoustic Warnings
--------------------------------------------
Fuel Warning (not active)
Displays/Language
--------------------------------------------
Units
Temperature (degrees f/degrees c)
Definitions/Notes (as I understand them)
--------------------------------------------
Locking after starting off: locks doors/boot/fuel at 10MPH
After engine off: unlocks upon handbrake pull
Selective: only opens driver's door on first turn of door key, second unlocks everything.
Selective CL RC: only opens driver's door on first press of remote, second unlocks everything.
Holding RC: holding remote unlock button for ~2 sec. opens windows/sunroof (opening ceases immediately upon release of the button)
Convenient opening: holding center console door unlock toggle up for ~2 sec. opens windows/sunroof (opening ceases immediately upon release of the toggle)
Daytime driving light: Enabling this may make it impossible to run the fog lights without the headlights. The conflict may be region dependent. See rygold's post for more info.
Home lights: Iff the engine is turned off before the headlights, they will remain on for this time.
Switch back: Wipers slow down when the car is stopped.

First, thanks for that whole list!
Enabling the daytime running light gives you the reduced power headlights when the car is in gear (since it uses the high-beam bulbs it has a neat look, IMO - not to mention the safety considerations). But apparently you are right that after getting the Daytime Running Lights enabled you can't turn on the fogs without the headlights. Before I got the DRLs enabled I liked being able to turn on the running(parking) lights and the fogs at dusk - but now I can't. I wonder if there is a way to have both?
BTW, I think most (if not all) of this is the same for the MC and for '02 models.

My dealer was pretty uncertain about the programming also -- that's why I figured this list would be helpful. I had them disable "Selective CL RC" but leave "Selective Central Locking" enabled. I really like being able to unlock everything with a single fob press, yet the paranoia mode remains -- If I'm freaking out, I can just use the key in the door and unlock only that door.

This works for me:
Turn on the headlights and the fog lights. Then turn the headlights down one notch to the running lights position. That leaves both the running lights and fog lights on.
In Canada we have legislated "day lights" so our MINIs come with the day time running lights already programmed. The trick above works here, in the quite frozen north!

when i got my MINI they didnt know anything about these things... also they said if you have xenon lights you cannot have daytime running lights and cannot have home lights...?
i also perfer the door locking thing, how u have to pull the handle twice to open the door, reminds me of my dads Porsche and i think its safer

I would be curious about the sound itself as well as when it chimes? If it chimes at the same point that my indicator flashes red (I have the NAV with the orange LEDs), then it is hardly worth it to me.
About the lights: I don't have the xenons, so I cannot say 100% for sure - but that doesn't sound right to me.
The DRLs use the high beam bulb at half-power, so they would have nothing to do with the xenons as far as I can tell.
Not sure about the FMH lights though.

vespa.
Thanks for the list. Now, is this the actual printout from your dealer?
I have given the dealer a similar list twice already because they too seem uncertain.
Something about not having all the software for all the features.
The low fuel audible warning is new to me, so I better see my MA soon for a third list . I just want to have all my features programmed before/when I pick up MINIhune

Yes this is the dealer printout -- it was printed directly from my car. I edited the post to include the software version (M32.0) that is noted on the top of the printout. I believe that's the version of my car's software, not the dealer's computer software. My dealer was uninformed as well but I found another post somewhere that included an actual scan of someone's printout so I asked my dealer to make a printout and fax it to me.
I'm fairly certain that the DRL and Home lights work with Xenons. Note that my car does indeed have Xenons and that the high-beams are standard H7 halogen.
Pull the handle twice?

But, if I turned the headlights back on the fogs would also come back on without having to hit the fog toggle again! (Just like when you go to high beams the fogs will turn off and then when you go back to the low beams, the fogs turn back on.)
So, if it works for you in Canada, I think it should be programmable to work here in US - but I could be wrong. I've got an appointment for next Monday. I'll see if I can ask some questions then...

thanks for that tip rygold, I will check it out!
However, the downside of that is that you havbe to turn the xenons on and then off again. I always thought the xenons have a fixed number of ignition cycles that limit their life (since they don't have a filament). Are you not concerned about this solution "wasting" xenon ignition cycles? However, if it works for US cars as well it will be a great way for real foggy situations.
Thanks again!!!!

MG-BGT Thanks for bringing this thread back - I forgot to report my findings at the dealership...
....They told me they couldn't program the fogs to do this. Now, I have no idea if they are just being lazy/dumb/etc. or if this really isn't possible for US cars. I would appreciate if anyone else can confirm their experiences here.
If you have the Daytime Running Lights enabled, can you turn on the fogs without having the low beam headlights on? (Please be sure to report if you try the method that Rygold described above.) Thanks for the feedback.

O, I've checked out RYGOLD's tip for turning on foglights without headlights when DRL are activated:
RYGOLD's tip:
turn on headlights, turn on foglights, turn headlights down one notch to running lights (or parking lights), and DRLs should stay off, headlights off, foglights on.
Well, it might work in Canada, but it won't work on US spec cars (at least not on mine):
when I do that trick, headlights come off but DRLs come ON, AND fogs go OFF!
Annoying!
I will have my DRLs programmed OFF at the next dealer visit.

Has anyone had any issues with the speed sensitive wiper option. It's the feature that slows your wipers down when you're stationary.
This has never been active on my MINI and my dealership claims that something else that is programmed on is overriding this function. I've never really believed this explanation since I don't know anyone else with this feature turned off or that is being "overridden". Am I the only one who's had trouble getting the speed sensitive wipers to work?

Seems to be true!

Gabe Here is one previous thread with a relatively detailed discussion on this. I think there might have been another, but I didn't find it with my speedy search.
