GP in the metal

I haven't been at all impressed with the GP in pictures, but wow did it look great in person! color, body kit, wheels, seats, even the dodgy roof graphics and ricer spoiler. still seriously unimpressed with the lack of back seats, but it really did look the biz.

NY auto show with no camera, alas.

Looking the biz seems to be all it has going for it. If you like that kind of biz, that is.

Not me. I think the GP looks cheap and tacky, but then that's MO Xalfa it seems like U and I are the only ones not falling over ourselves with this GP HYPE! JB

I think it's cool that it's a limited edition... That said, I also saw it at the NY auto show and was one stop shy of embarassed that it was a MINI. Ick. It's so over-the-top-spastic-come-on-and-race-me-my-car-looks-fast

well, tacky is a taste thing, but it didn't look cheap, which I was expecting having seen pics here and there.

I fail to understand how anyone can be disappointed or unimpressed with the lack of back seats in a "limited edition, performance-oriented" factory model. This isn't the "limited editon, ultra-luxury model", you know...

Not only are some weight savings realized from the lack of a back seat, but it helps even more by ensuring that there will never be more than the weight of 2 passengers!

I saw the GP at the NY autoshow on Saturday and I thought it looked pretty cool. I wasn't into the spoiler thought... to big and ugly. Anyway... after seeing the SLR and Carrera GT that were there, it was hard to get really excited about the GP!

styling wise i agree, not at all my cup of tea, but i hate weight and love performance, so i definitely respect the idea, and in theory still think its really cool, though im sure quite easily, and probably somwhat cheaper than the full cost of teh GP package if i did the work myself, i could bring my MCS to essentially the same package with less tackiness to boot ( and prob more power!)

my feeling about the backseats is that they should have done what renaultsport did with the clio - either remove them and put a larger engine in their place as they did with the clio V6 or keep them and lose weight elsewhere as they did with the cup and trophy models. point taken though.

I shared a lot of your negative reactions when I saw pictures, but was pleasantly surprised by it in the flesh. low expectations maybe?

What kills me is they're preaching "weight cutting" yet they add that dopey tacked on aero kit, that cheap Sooby-ish wing, and those truly HIDEOUS wheels, Oh wait 4 spokes will weigh less than 5 spokes, right? Gawd those wheels make me wanna hurl....

But I hear it's a real driver's car, what with DSC and no Xenons. Blah. Hey and that shower curtain rod in the back might come in handy for hang-drying microfiber towels, eh?

(Can we put up a new vomiting simile?) Jimbo

Agreed. The 18" rubber sorta puts the "ultra-performance" idea out the window..

Well, I never said "ultra-performance"... I said "performance-oriented", and compared to all of the other factory models, it is (more so).

big bling wheels are a sad fact of modern life - a lot of cars are designed such that they need them to look their best though . . .

I have been saying it a long time......if they were serious they would find a way to put 250 to the wheels so it would compete with other factory performance cars. This is there big deal car and it has less power than mine and I don't have a turbo...... They should have made a performance statement like the original Hemi - Cuda, 350 GT, 427 Cobra, (Iknow....American muscle)how about a factory turbo at 300 Hp..... it is a couple of shades better than the old Detroit trick of putting high performance badges on cars (read stickers) with no pop.... There should be an "M" version.... I don't have a problem with the looks.... but it's a poser.....
