Thanx for your concern. Not sure how it happened. I had been smelling fumes since I had an Alta Oil Catch can & an M7 Understrut installed at the MOTD, but couldn't explian it. I'm not really sure it's related, but I have had no major problem in the 3yrs of ownership. Now that I think about it, that's $430.00 down the drain.

Do the firemen have any theories?

So sorry about your car... but happy that you weren't hurt.

No theories, anything that was not metal from the front bumper to the drivers seat was burned away. The radiator was liquified. The dash is completely gone.

Holy crap! I am so sorry for your loss. Do you have any pics after the fire was extingushed? I would like to see what remained. I am sure insurance will take care of everything (you might not want to mention the mods, but someone else may tell you better than I), and you'll be back with a MINI in no time!

Damn, man. Sorry for your loss and very glad that you were not hurt. That was a very nice looking MINI.

I learned to carry a fire extinguisher back in my Lotus days - fiberglass cars burn real good. It might not save the car, but then again it might. I always figured I had one good chance to kill a fire with the Europa. Luckily, never had to try it...

Anyone have a link to a place that sells a good car fire extinguisher?

For car fires, will an A-B-C extinguisher work or do we need a kitchen-style?

I've seen them in chrome, are other colors available? How about mounting options?

Are there any issues with temperature changes in a car? Winter months, sunlight, etc.

Sorry for all of the questions, but looking at this, they seem relevant.

It will only hurt the group until I can replace it with a DS/DS Works pkg.

OMG - I first saw your pictures while looking through the gallery - I am in shock and can't believe it. I am so sorry for your loss, but can't wait to see your new MINI!!! My husbands car was totalled and he got his MINI. Then my car was totalled, and I got my MINI. It sucks that bad things happen, but if the outcome equals new MINIs, then the world is a happier place!

Wow! Two sad things from these pics, a burned up Mini and a proud F-15 on a stick. Hope your raplacement is as sweet at the original.

Shack, that was great.

Minian, terrible calamity, but you sound to have a replacement strategy in place...

Has your insurance given you any trouble?

Really sorry to hear and see that

Haven't I just been reading about two others that had fires.
One was investigated and I think they started in the area of the ABS unit.

Sorry to hear about your loss. How far from home were you? Are you home now? Will insurance pay off the car? Or will they pay to replace the car?
