What is the best deal you can get for extended warranty and extended maintenance?
I will take delivery of my mcs in early July.
Does anyone buy those extended warranty and maintenance
when taking delivery, what is the price do you pay for those?
Let's just talk about price, not whether it is worth or not.

Separately, you might want to check into when the term of the coverage runs out. If you buy the policy when you take delivery, the term runs concurrently with your factory warranty. If you buy extended warranty coverage just before the factory warranty period runs out, the extended warranty will cover you longer. I found this out when I was checking into GM Protection Plan coverage for my Corvette. I now have GMPP coverage for the next 7 years instead of for 4 years after the factory warranty expired. The salesman may counter that the price of the extended warranty is lower if you buy it when you take delivery of the car. But that is because you are only getting 3 years of "extended" warranty coverage.

The only extended "warranty" I purchased with my new MCS was the one that extends the free scheduled mtce an extra year and 14k miles (to 4 years 50K). At that time it was $499 (prices vary with market) and it was non-taxable. I just wanted the car covered the entire length of my finance contract. Jimbo

The Mini Warrenty is good!!!!!
The extended maintenence warrenty increases the time to six years from the day you bought your car. It will increase your miles covered up to 100,000 miles.
So that means after the original 36,000 mile warrenty is over you will be good for another 64,000 miles and for an extra three years. So you really could say you will be paying for an extra 64,000 miles and an extra three years. It was $1,495.00 for my 2009 JCW and is a Genuine BMW Mini product. It covers all maintenence and includes the brake pads & clutch.Etc. It goes with the car when or if you decide to sell it and will add value to your Mini. It is way much better then the aftermarket policy's that GM & Ford Etc offer for way more $$$$$ and seem to go out of business before you need to use it like they did with my Corvette policy. I would not have purchased this if it was not A Genuine BMW company owned policy. My policy I had for my Corvette was twenty some hundred dollars but went out of business and I was stuck with no policy. The dealer said it was unfortunate but there was nothing they could do about it. The Policy was not a GM owned company so they were out of it as I was out my $$$$.

I was in last week (with a busted radiator fan) Ten days out of warranty!
The dealer said neither Mini or BMW do not offer any extended warranty packages, but for $2700, they tried to sell me a five year deal with an outside company called 'Wheelz'. I bought a Bentley sevice manual instead.

And I didn't buy either the extended warranty or the extended maintenance plan, but MINIUSA threw in a free extension on the maintenance plan to 4 years/50k miles. I'm glad it was free, because I'm not going to have a single service come due during the extension period.

Clarifacation on warrenty
I was talking about the maintenence warrenty. They change oil & cover things that may wear out. Filters Etc. Not the total car warrenty. I should have been more clearer. "SORRY"

You will usually get a better deal if you don't wait until after the factory one expires. In my case it did pay for itself within the first two years I had it. And if you know anything about Jaguar Dealerships, nothing ever happens fast in the service dept, so my warranty Included Rental car ...good thing too.
You can purchase an extended warranty at any time afterwards unless you decide to have it worked into your car payments. The only problem with that method is that you are paying for something you will not immediately require, and a have higher monthly payment and additionally paying interest on that as well all during that time....
I did that method with my old 04' Jeep Liberty Limited. And when I traded the Jeep in, they deducted a few hundred dollars for fees and early termination, and refunded the difference. I got back about $980.00 out of $1,100.00.
So I have had two plans so far, both beneficial in my opinion especially if you are on semi-fixed budget and worried about future large repair bills.
If they pressure you to get the ESP at time of siging the papers, just remember.
1) You may never keep MINI long enough past Factory Service Plan to use it ?
2) You can always purchase a plan though MINI or other company like I did and do so just before factory runs out. The difference in price is negligible regardless of what they say. I paid $1,400.00US for the Jag's and $1,100.00US for the Jeep's ) And they break it down into payments for 6 months too....
3) Most ESP's are transferrable for a small fee ( Like 25 bucks) to next owner if you sell her in a private sale. Good selling point and a price can be worked into the sale above NADA and KBB.
Just remember, if you have to use the plan often, racking up alot of repair bills, don't expect to get much back if any when you trade her in. They take any repairs off paid for right off the top, then deduct for service agreement months covered and miles you put on the car.....
Good Luck !

My '06 R53 automatic has 34k miles and next month,(March 09) the maintenance agreement expires. The price I've seen here is $1400. My local dealer Bob Smith in Calabassas Ca. wants $2000 to renew it.Does Mini control the price or is it up to the dealer. If I buy it now the dealer will give me a $300 rebate. Is it worth it or should I find some private shops to do whatever it will need for brakes, oil changes etc. Ron

Pricing is up to individual dealers as it is a mark up item. Shop around. You can purchase the plan from my dealer, Lauderdale MINI, for $1,350 plus 6.5% Broward County sales tax. Talk to my SA, Marc Holstberg at (954)763-4777.
If you drive at least 15K miles a year and plan to keep your MINI for a long time, I highly recommend it.
In addition to all standard MINI servicing items, the plan covers for:
The entire clutch assembly (Clutch kit and flywheel)
Engine belts
Brake pads and rotors.
Already have had my rear brakes replaced and the entire clutch assembly to the tune of $3,000 all covered under the plan. Next pit stop, 60K mile service front brake pads, rotors and engine belts will be replaced and covered by the extended maintenance plan.
As you can see, the plan has already paid itself more than twice for me.

Is there an actual name and item # or something that one refers to at the dealer for the $ 1400 extended maintainence contract. My dealer says that I don't want whatever that $1400 item is and I should get a GE Money warranty services 5 star Vehicle service contract for $2400+ and get a month before my Mini service contract is up.

Your dealer is trying to shove down your throat a $2,400 aftermarket warranty (With probably a nice mark up built into it). The MINI Extended service plan is a very different animal. Don't let them tell you otherwise!

I called my Mini Dealership yesterday (Dreyer-Reinbold Mini, Indianapolis, IN) for pricing information on the extended service warranty. They quoted me $1995, but there is a $250 discount bringing the cost down to $1745 if I purchase before my current warranty expires, which willl be April 24, 2009. I asked him about matching the price of other Mini dealerships if I found the extended warranty at a cheaper rate and mentioned this rate of $1350 + tax. He said that he was amazed that the price would be so low. I called Marc a couple of times yesterday to verify the pricing. So far, I've only been able to get voicemail. Hopefully, he'll call me back.

The $1995 is probably for an extended warranty, while the $1350 figure is for an extended service plan.

I have an extended warranty plan that's not a Mini only warranty. I got it through the BMW dealer that I bought the car from and I've already used it a few times and I'm glad I bought it. The great thing is that the Mini service centre doesn't care if my car is modded because they'll get paid from the warranty company.

interesting info here
On an older thread (2006)the consensus was extended warranties were a bad idea but they were talking about third party warranties.
I've never taken my car to the dealer for work or maintenance.
My wife got a few oil changes with her Scion but it was a hassle and you had to leave the car all day. Plus the few times we went they always found something the car needed to charge us, it was just easier to go to Oil Changer.
It probably depends on where you live but I bet here in the SF Bay Area there are many people that work on Mini's and charge less then the dealer.

Likewise, the actuarial professionals that calculate how much the warranty companies should charge for an extended warranty are *very* good at their job, and will always make sure that the cost of the warranty exceeds what's known as the "expected cost" of repairs during the extended warranty period. For every owner that gets lucky and gets eleventy-kajillion dollars' worth of repair work covered by the extended warranty, there are many more that don't get their money's worth out of it.
Now, just as in casino gambling, there are things that affect the "house advantage". If your personal car has a history of a particular problem cropping up again and again, then that's information that the actuaries aren't privy to, and in that case, it may make sense to get the extended warranty, since your particular car obviously has a higher-than-average chance of experiencing that particular problem again.
Also, if you could potentially be financially devastated by an expensive out-of-warranty repair, then the extended warranty might make sense. It's still a losing proposition, statistics-wise, but if even the possibility of having to pay out-of-pocket for a major repair is too much of a financial risk, then the warranty might be a good idea.
