Did you guys find that it went up or down after break-in? Im at like 925miles so im almost done with the break-in but the first tank of gas i got about 20mpg then its been getting better the more miles i put on it. Most recently im getting about 23-23.5mpg i was expecting around 25mpg. My last fill up was like 290miles on a tank.

There was a thread on NAM about a year ago where everyone drove as gently as they could for a week and posted their mileage.

I got around 33.2, but it was not fun shifting at 3000 all the time.

Thanks for the link

Now, an after market intake helps with better gas milage. Does an after market exhaust system help also?

yes, it will get better after break-in. however you'll probably counteract any improvement for the first few tanks by enjoying the power in the higher rpms... that's the good stuff!

I have heard that a intake helps but i want to know for sure, cause my first mod is going to be an Alta intake. I would think that the way an intake helps with increased air induction an exhaust helps with increase gas expulsion so it would help mpgs as well but i dont know that for sure.

I get around 32-35 average....it's an MC CVT modified(intake, MTH, Exhaust) and driven pretty "enthusiastically" most of the time.

I once calculated getting like 41mpg highway last summer....but there is no way that was correct.
I just spent 2 days driving across PA and NJ and managed to average 42MPG in D-mode on the turnpike

I'm also in the same boat around 800 miles total, although I haven't really noticed improvement. About 23MPG in my stop-n-go commute since the first day, and well below the advertised 25. I have gotten 25MPG on a few trips (I reset the MPG gauge a lot), but it hasn't been consistent. On the few highway trips, it's been around 30MPG. Frankly, given the size of the car and engine, I'm pretty disappointed with its mileage so far.

Drive the MCS mostly in city, lots of stop-and-go, drive the car "spirited" and get about 230-260 miles per fill up.

All city driving...27MPG,

Cooper mileage

'06, after about 10K miles, tank in and tank out, just over 400 miles on a tank - i.e. 30 to 32mpg mixed stop and go fwy, open fwy and some around town short trips. With a light foot. Drive it hard and it goes into the high 20's.

I get about 30 mpg in my MCS. I have an easy 70 to 60 mph, 32 mile cruise to work, where I put most of my miles on. The nice thing about the cooper S is that when I do a bit of hard driving, I still get about 30 mpg. Thirty point nine for the whole trip to Prescott, the runs, the skills driving, and the drive back to Santa Fe. This compares to my Saab which gets perhaps 29 on the highway but drops as low as the teens around town on short trips. The one shortfall of my MCS is as I get to higher cruising speeds, say 85-95, the gas mileage drops off.

You guys are nuts. I'm getting around 23mpg and I don't think I've even cracked 300 before filling yet, usually something like 260-270. But then I drive in the city and I am most definitely NOT a conservative driver. :D

I get at least 450 miles out of every tank. I get 33-34 mpg highway averaging 75-80 mph. If I behave and drive 65, I get 37-38 mpg - but I hardly ever behave.

'03 MC, mostly highway commute.

My 2005 manual MC with 20,500km's onboard computer says im averaging about 7.0L/100km. (~40mpg).
Now taking the actual reading by the manual method (duration of 2 fill-ups). Im averaging about 7-8 L/100km (~36-40mpg) Around 600km's per tank...(spring/summer temperatures). I've only owned the car for 3 months, so i haven't tried the gas test in the dead of winter. Probably wont make much of a diffrence.
What I dont understand is that my previous car (1995 Honda Accord EX-R) got the same milage...2.2 vtec.
I wonder if the 2007 BMW/Peugot engines will be more efficient for the Minis?...

That is our problem with MIB. We haven't emptied a tank with all highway miles.

I took a roadtrip when I was still in the break-in period.
Got something in the low 30's

Took a trip from DC to Ocean City and back, did some city driving during the week and finally filled up around 450 miles.

That's the best yet.

Gonna drive from DC to Chicago tomorrow. Will report back here on tuesday

Go Kimi

Mostly city I get about 19mpg. We have too many hills and stop signs/lights to get decent gas mileage in SF.

Highway, same story if I take 280. Lots of hills. I probably get about 28 mpg at 75 mph. I avoid 101 like the plague.
