Intake and Exhaust = Bye Bye Warranty?

As far as the warranty goes, how much can be done modding-wise? I was browsing a thread earlier that showed video clips of exhausts in action. I particularly LOVED the sound of the UUC exhaust. From what I could tell, the car had an intake as well, as the supercharger was screaming as it flew by.

I'd like to get an Alta CAI, along with the UUC exhaust, but not if it voids my warranty! Does Mini only cover it if it's a JCW intake?

Anytime you upgrade a MINI part and replace the original outside of the dealership you will void the specific warranty for that upgraded part which was entitled to you when you purchased your MINI new or otherwise.

If you want the full warranty then-
Work with your dealership to install JCW upgrades or
arrange with your dealership to install your upgrades (might also include buying the upgrades from them with your help).

If the dealership performs the installs with MINI upgrades that are mainstream products (that are of high quality and offer warranties) then they can (and often do) offer a local warranty on their work with those upgrades.

Otherwise your intake and exhaust warranties are void when you add those upgrades. Anything you can bolt on can be removed and replaced with stock parts. If the dealership does not see that you have anything out of the ordinary then your warranty can be honored.

In my area many MINI owners have upgraded intakes and exhaust and bring their MINIs into the dealership for servicing as is and normal work is done under warranty but not for those specific upgraded parts should there be any problem with the upgrade itself.

If an upgrade should fail or have a problem that directly leads to a stock part failing then the damage would not be covered but the dealership has to prove that cause and effect relationship.

Alta CAI and UUC exhaust are great choices.

I assuming your going to Towson from where you live. Towson is mod friendly. In fact, just talk to them, they will get you anything from MiniMania AND warrant it. If you really want the Alta and UUC, still talk to the SAs. Buy the parts and they should install them. Otherwise, try LDG.

Even better. IF you go to MOS, their part department will order most anything for you EXCEPT Alta. Just ask them

Great news! I'm excited :D

I actually remember meeting someone at MOS when I was getting my car checked out. He was having them install a BMP intake. BMP is choice #2 for me... are they any good?

I hate to say it but never heard of BMP

Look for the Motoring Underground CAI shootout thread. Most popular seem to be Alta and M7 VGS. You might also consider lucky dog https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=65794
$250 for a minimadness intake. He should be close to you. Glenwood much shorter drive than MOS and John the owner is a great guy.
