Since the new MINI has been out for about 4 years now I thought it would be a good time to ask "How many miles does the the highest mileage MINI have?"
We have one person in our local club who's over 100,000 miles, but I know that there must be plenty of MINIs out there with more.
my '03 is just about to pass 16,000 Not my daily driver. It will take for ever for me to get to 100K. In the first year I had the car, I put 10K on it, but it has done a lot of sitting the past several years....
I know, I should get out and drive it more, but I am keeping it for all time, so part of me wants to keep it in as perfect of condition that I can....so 30 years down the line, it will look as close to new as a driven car can.
Do you have a CVT by any chance? If so, at what mileage point did it fail?
To be honest, I have much more confidence in the ZF sourced CVT making it well over 100K miles with no problems over the dubious Midland Gears (R65) Rover derived 5-speed manual that was offered in the '02-'04 MC. The Midland Gears gearbox is the weakest link of the Pre-2005 MINI Coopers and is subject to premature failures. Just ask any number of pre-2005 MC owners here in NAM. Octaneguy comes to mind.
Fortunately MINI, severed the last ties it had with Rover when in 2005 fitted a much superior Getrag sourced 5-speed manual transmission with shortened gear ratios.
130,000+ is pretty impressive. Is he still on his original supercharger? I figure my supercharger will crap out before the rest of the engine.
I believe he is/was (Probably has since sold the car and replaced it with a new MCS). I also think he was running the original S/C with a 15% reduction pulley.
dkstone's THDUKE ('03 IB MCS JCW) has over 130K last time I saw him post a few months ago. And that is with a brutal Long Island, NY commute and more than a few track days. Maybe he'll see this and post the latest tally.
