Just Returned From a Very Scary Trip!

Although I'm not new to car forums, I'm new to NAM. I like the community.

But, folks, I just visited the "Beneath the Bonnet" forum where I encountered hundreds of posts about ghouls and gremlins in the MINI. I've never seen such a large collection of discussions about problems in a car.

Should I be scared? Or is this simply because it is the place to go to discuss problems and, for the new reader, it can be overwhelming and gives the impression that the MINI is problematic?

I have a MINI on order and I've been excited, until my visit to the "Beneath the Bonnet."

Thanks for any insight.

---

EDIT: So far the comments below are positive. Let's keep this thread alive: If you've had great luck with your MINI so far, please add a comment or two with the year and approximate milage of your car.

Thanks!

Don't worry. There are tons of people out there that don't post that their car is trouble free. You'll love it when it comes in.

Congratulations on the order.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Though some MINIs do have some quirks most tend to be trouble free.

You think it's bad over there? From someone who's owned both a Corvette and a few Mustang's and most recently a Mustang Cobra.........you should join those website and look at the problems. They have their engine forums put into 10-20 subforums of stuff, HAHA.

Seriously, you have problems with ANY car.......and remember the rule, people are 10 times more likely to post/complain about a problem, rather than to post about having NO problems.

Welcome to NAM, powerband. Like it has been discussed since the inception of this site, folks just do not typically post "my car is perfect!" type threads. People post in certain forums to get technical information and assistance, but do not be put off by the discussions. They do not reflect the vast majority of MINI owners' experiences. And remember, MINI has a terrific warranty.

Hey my car is perfect!!!! :-)

Yep my car is perfect. No gremlins in mine & no Electro Nanny's either. More folks need to post here about how great their cars are. Trust me it will be great when you are motoring in your new MINI.

Happy motoring!!!

Your replies are what I hope I would hear. So, you're all saying that I can now remove my hand from the panic button?

Remove your hand but keep the panic button. Your passengers will soon need it.

It's entirely possible your MINI could turn out to be a lemon, there's no way to predict that. However, figure if you have a problem or two, Beneath the Bonnet can probably help you out...after all, that's what it is there for.

My Feb 2006 MCS JCW Cabrio just passed 6000 miles with absolutely no problems except for some very quiet creaks from the convertible top on New Jersey's worst potholed roads (where any other car would complain as loud).

Best decision I ever made, buying this car. It has brought so much fun and joy into my life, I have a whole new outlook these days. And the community is just beyond great.

I am counting the days to MTTS - this will be the high point of my year...!!

Don't sweat it. MINI's are well made robust little cars. I had the same problem when I was considering buying a MINI. The only problems I've had are minor, and should have been fixed prior to delivery. (I had a leaking windshield washer pump. Not a drip, it'd empty itself in 5 minutes...)

Since then, I've eaten up a set of front tires every 16K miles or so.

Don't work yourself up. These are good cars.

Yep - we're sick... Our first MINI was an early '05 MCC now with 25k milesand never a single problem. Loved it enough to sell our (second) SUV to buy a late '05 MCS coupe - now with 20k miles. Only a couple of minor problems with with either of them, and I'll recommend the MINI brand to anyone who wants to listen. Sure the first year ('02) had a few issues like most new models; but MINI got their act together and for most of us have produced very reliable and fun cars. You don't need to think twice - go for it!

02 Mini Cooper, 35k miles. Just a couple of things went wrong, shade wouldn't retract...got it fixed for free from BMW guy who owns a MC. Heard a loud metal noise about the 2nd week I owned it and have never heard it since...spooky, but I think it was possibly a rock in brakes. I'm getting over 32 miles to the gal. and that's just driving around town. If I travel on the Interstate...I get over 35 miles to the gal. Plus, you get all these wonderful smiles from passerbys.

I had a little gremlin once. It was the clock, and I think I excorcised it (sp?) without ever having to go to the dealer. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. It's a great car and everyone wants to drive it, and I always just smile.

My MINI, which is my second MINI, has been the best and most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned....and that is after 37 years of driving, too! The first one was great, but when I saw the first pix of the '03 MCS in Jet Black, I had to trade in my '02 Pure Silver Cooper to get my Wicked Wanda!!!!

Think of 'Beneath the Bonnet' as a gauntlet to pass through. If you are worthly, you'll make it through the gauntlet unscathed. The weak of heart will perish.
A year and a half and I'm happy as a clam. I have had a few minor things dealt with by the dealer, but nothing that put a cramp in my motoring style...

Eric,

Can you expound on what the few minor things were?

Thanks!

FUEGO,

Can you tell me more about the "minor problems" that you had?

Thanks!
