How do I fit a bicycle inside a Mini? :D

Yes yes! It's time for... "What else could you possibly fit in your Mini tiiiiimeeee!" :impatient

Today, I'd like to know how to properly fit a bicycle inside a Mini. I know it's *probably* possible, as I fit the box containing my bike pieces in it , but I'm just not sure about a fully constructed one ! I could take the front tire off, but I don't know what else..

IDEARS?

easy

Fold down the passenger seat and remove the front wheel. It slides right in. I do it all the time. I am an avid cyclist thats too vain to spoil the looks with a roof rack

I do this all the time! Here is a cr*ppy cellphone pic of two mountain bikes in a MINI...

the process:
a) rear seats down (duh)
b) remove both front and rear tires
c) remove seat/saddle
d) *carefully* place frame in @ an angle*
e) *carefully* stack tires on top of frame
f) optional: bungie cord everything to prevent sliding around

*we stack the frames opposite of each other- that is, bottom frame has tail end in first, facing right/passenger side, forks to the left; top frame has tail end in first, facing left/drivers' side, forks to the right... (notice the full flat/case of water!).

oh yeah---

e) plenty of blankets, etc. to protect your beautiful interior.

I wish I had a better photo... it's always an afterhought. HTH...

I have been trying to figure this one out also. I took off both wheels of my bike (56 cm road bike ) but I still couldn't get it to fit in the MINI. I had just assumed it would fit with both wheels off. It fit easily in my previous car (1988 Honda Civic HB) with just the front wheel removed.
I was considering getting this rear-mounted rack, http://www.bdiracks.com/bdiplate.html but then found that I would need to drill 4 holes in the body of the MINI to mount the backing plate, so that kind of put me off.
I haven't given up yet though, I still hope to find a way that it will fit inside.

It's very simple with a folding bike.

Iriemanhq...NEVER thought that was possible. Great cellphone pic and how-to. Quite certain you attract a crowd wanting to see 'how is THAT ever going to fit...' And Konky...fantastic. To me the car would look just plain naked without the rack.

Thanks for the great tips, guys! Konky, I never thought ANY car with a bike rack could look so good. Drooool. Excellent execution

In other news, I've secured the use of a truck, so fitting it into the Mini is a non-issue.

FYI, the bike is a 2001 Iron Horse G-Spot. It's in brand new condition. Upgraded fork, rear shock, XT shifters (XT rear derailleur stock). $450 (good deal?) I'm excited!

Did your rack come with those white side covers or is that a custom paint job. Looks nice. I have a white roof with black trim on the rack.

I've just popped off the front wheel and then slid it in between the front and back seats - worked pretty well.

wasn't there a bike where it folds up into a small suit case size?

When I did my test drive 2 years ago, we folded down the rear seats in the demo so that I could see how my road bike would fit as that was a critical issue considering how much I ride. Granted my bike is only a 50cm frame, but I still wanted to be sure it fit...and it does, I take off the front wheel and leave the rear one on.

I, too, don't care for the looks of a bike rack, but there are some fine looking examples in this thread.

remove front wheel and seat/seatpost..... mark the seatpost for proper height when you put it back on

I painted them white, it's a simple job. Although I'd rather prefer Miniusa to offer a white version.

Yeah, in post #8 That's the least expensive "good" fullsized folding bike available, but some of the other models they make do fold much smaller.

I went with a Saris Bones 3 rack on the back. I'm too absent-minded for the roof rack. I know I'd smack it into something, and I usually carry between $6000 and $7500 worth of bikes on the rack.

I'm borrowing my friends Bones2 also. I used it for a week so far and it worked fine. I'd like to put on a piece of invisashield at the bottom of the boot though. I left it on all week and there was quite a build up of crap anound the pads.
