That page made me hurt inside over and over. That is quite possibly one of the worst designed websites I have seen. Those pictures are quality also.
Personally, I customize my cars by not customizing them at all. While everyone does stuff to their cars, I leave mine bone stock. But to each his own.

I personally agree that if the tubes are hidden, it can look pretty cool.
And with all the bronze wheels, huge tacky decals and magnets, pink stripes on green cars, and other unique stuff people on here do to beautiful MINIs, don't let NAMers influence you. Just do what you like and what you think looks good.

Putting under glow lights on a MINI is no more "ricey" than putting stickers on them or clear indicators, exhausts, etc. You can say that's what started the Mini scene back in the 60's, but the same could be said about the guys with neon lights behind the grills and under the chassis of their Caddies back in the 50's and 60's. Nobody can say that this mod is not for a MINI. I payed $22K for my car, and if I want a glow emitting from underneath, then I'm going to do it. I'm military and meet people daily from all walks of life. To each his own.

We'll all laugh at you, and won't invite you to any Star-Belly Mini parties.
Seriously though, the glowing thing is super tacky. The mini is a classy european car, not a chincy Japanese import. Just because it may work on a civic doesn't mean it would work on a mini.

True to a point, but in all fairness, my 10 year old Suzuki Sidekick has been more reliable than my MINI has been, and it cost $11K brand new. Sorry, but the lights aren't any tackier than antenna toppers.

I like the idea of a soft glow coming from underneath a Mini at night...kind of cool. I don't think it would be tacky. If you want tacky...look at some of the galleries of extreme mods people have done to their minis. Go for it if you want to. It's your Mini and you can do with it what you want!!

Well, after doing this to the interior...
...I had some extra cathodes left over, and so I sort of constructed this light frame thing out of dense foam and silicone and put it inside my grill behind the front bumper plate... it fills the upper and lower grills with the same blue glow.
I don't have any pics yet (I haven't run the power wires, only tested it on a PC power supply I have), but it actually looked surprisingly good.
As for lighting the entire underbody... Hey, if I had the money I'd do it, sure why not? They're really only to be used at car shows (like someone said, they're illegal to run while the car is moving in many places), but they DO make people's jaws drop, and since the MINIs are so low, the glow would be pretty intense. Sure, the "purists" will say they're "Rice" and whatnot, but so what? Whatever can be put on can be taken off if you change your mind or go to sell the vehicle, so why not live a little?
By the way - you're much better off going with an LED kit like an ICELED or a Flowlight Blaze over neons... They draw far less power, are much better sealed and durable and some can be insanely programmed. Certainly NOT everyone's cup of tea, but they are certainly something different...

Sorry to say that there is a lot of nice Japanese Imports out there that are better than the Mini. The Fairlady Z, Mazda RX-8, Nissan Skyline, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and the Subaru WRX Sti. They are all fine Japanese imports. Maybe not as classy as a Mini, but still great.

Street Glow makes a LED under car kit that I put on my JCW. The lights change to seven different colors and can be set to pulse to music beat or engine rpm, plus 10 pre-set patterns. The LED's are just as bright as neon and have more options plus they are less fragile than the neons. I paid about $220. for the complete kit.

Impossible to compare.
My last car was a WRX, and my best friend drives an RX-8. I prefer the Mini to both cars, but they are just not in the same class. Saying that any of those a-fore-mentioned cars are better than the Mini is a coment that is impossible to qualify. "Better" is simply a matter of opinion. Some people would claim that the Neon is better, but that sure doensn't make it true.
