I can appreciate the work and craftsmanship put into these cars, but the Shockwave really is kind of ugly. "Park bench wing" is right, and the "shockwave" spelled out the back is pretty tacky. Not a big fan of the K&N Typhoon intake; form over function, IMO (does the pipe from the grille really do any more than vaguely waft some additional breath over near the filter cone?). I'm sure the workmanship is top-notch, however.

The only intake they could use was the K&N because it's the only one CARB certified in CA where they build and sell these.

Really? Someone should tell JCW and Dinan that their intakes aren't CARB certified.

The dealerships are probably owned by the same person. Usually when they have the same name (South Bay) they are. Maybe the Lotus dealership was the one with the Ebay account.

Not really my taste either.

These are well executed modified cars. Yes, the paint, spoiler, and other mods are aggressive....but anyone calling them RICE is cearly uneducated when it comes to cars.

Agreed. The term RICE gets tossed around so liberally here, yet most people lack the understanding of what it really means...Just because a car has a wing, it's not rice, same with detailed paint and/or bodywork (as long as it accentuates the car). Rice is buying APR stickers @ Pep Boyz, along with the $25 universal 4" exhaust you got off ebay, and sticking them all on a '91 sentra with 3 hubcaps and a donut. Rice on a MINI is buying every piece of chrome from Moss MINI just because it is, and I hate to tell everyone but those "actual size" stickers aren't far off.

flame away...:impatient

So what you are saying is that different people have different definitions of rice?

I did not know this would turn into a Rice War

These cars a not Rice Cars, thats when you get a cheapo $500.00 car and load it up with things from pep boys, if thats your thing.
These cars have been put together very well from the stock version.
I agree with above these are not rice but one of a kind Hollywood MINI's .
It might not be your taste but it is very one of a kind.
Their is not 5 5" screens with fiber glassed back ends and big speakers coming out of every corner.
This is not an Import in the say from china or japan. The MINI has its own catagory.
Rice is considered first to be cars of china or ***. background even though cheaper american cars are making their way in , Saturns, neons, calv. ...etc
Hence the word Runs on "Rice"

i dont understand how shockwave is rice, doesnt that wing only weigh 3 lbs? its not like a 25lb piece of wood back there. the paint is actually well done, and the mods on it are tastefull. Its a theme car, and a damned good one at that. Also, goaljnky, people could say putting numbers on your car is rice also, its not like ur racing to work everyday . Just saying...

EDIT: also just because cars have huge systems with fiberglass everywhere doesnt mean its rice either... why should somebody get lumped in with a culture that does everything bargain, when they pay 1000's of dollars to get their systems and enclousures to look nice (including LCD screens and other things)

Um no, I was giving the definition of Rice in general, and then applying it in principle (read: uncoordinated, overkill mods) to the MINI

See above and note, different opinions. This is what gets so frustrating sometimes. If one does like the car they get flamed from those that dont, if one does not like the car they get flamed from those that do. Why cant some like it and some not.

And I also agree with Goajnky, there are different definitions of rice. Here in Los Angeles you can have a 45K G35 "riced to hell" with expensive parts or a beat to hell hoopty with Pep Boys stickers.

Thats the beauty of it this country, there is something to please everyone.
