I may have found a mini in MA, that I will need to ship to Arizona. I would like the name of any company you all may have used and if you were happy with the service. Was it a closed carrier?? or okay to go with an open truck. and approx price you paid. Thanks in advance, Lauren

Open not OK. I used a company to ship an MGB once
and there are things you should look for. Make sure the
truck it is loaded on in MA. is the truck it comes off in
AZ. That is probably the most important thing...you don't
want a company that sub-contracts and on and off-loads.
I think they were located in MA. Pricing these days I am
not sure about.
Good Luck.

I shipped a long-wheel base Land Rover from the New England area to PHX for about $950. That was in 1997 and I found them by calling around.

For the Mini, the cost to ship from NY to CA was quoted by a NY dealer as $900. I'm purchasing a MCS from the same dealer for MSRP with the shipping capped at $500. I'll get the car about 4 months sooner than waiting for the AZ dealer to work me up to the top of his list.

I wouldn't worry about the carrier being open. I suspect you'll pay a lot more for a closed carrier. Just a guess. You may ask that it specifically not be parked under something like an old oil-dripping Land Rover though. When the said LR was delivered, I felt so bad that I pulled out my pressure washer and 'simple green' and quickly tried to wash the stuff off of the car that was under the LR. It was a mess.

Cheers,

Won't bother telling you who I used cuz you need to figure out who services the route you need and who has the best cost.

But

I shipped a Miata from Miami to San Fran 3 years ago on an open truck for under $1000 - no more damage than would have happened if I drove - couple of scratches.

Know this...

Mine was picked up by a flat bed tow truck - and delivered by an 18 wheeler that was full. The companies that do this will collect cars 'til they fill a truck to where you are going. Same as a long haul household mover. Unless you want to pay a premium - as in closed truck or (gasp) a solo truck.

Remember your MINI rode a truck to get to the dealer it is at!

Are you buying new? From MINI Peabody? If so, they can probably advise you.

Maybe I should offer a one way drive - AZ weather has got to be better than here
