Fuel door

I was replacing my tail lamps on my 04 MCS and on the left side I found a solenoid that runs towards the fuel cap opening. This solenoid has a type of handle sticking out the top. Am I supposed to have a fuel door release button in the car? If so the car is equiped with factory sirius module in that corner so access to lever in very difficult. Thanks in advance Dave

I believe that would apply to the door lock mechanism locks the cover?

But no inside the cockpit release for the cover (aside from unlocking the doors)

There is an electronic lock for the fuel door that activates when the car is either put in gear or in motion (maybe linked to the door locks). Once I had the fuel door open and hit the key fob lock button - and saw a little yellow pin slide into the fuel door opening to lock the door.

If you have auto locking doors turned on, then the fuel door locks. There is a lever in the cubby in the boot on the drivers side that unlocks the fuel door should you lose power, or the solenoid fails. It takes a real good tug to open with the lever.

Fuel door doesn't always lock

Not to hijack the thread or anything. I think this issue fits in here, my applologies in advance if it doesn't.

One time, I checked the fuel door to see if it was locked (car doors locked)and discovered that it wasn't. I found that the little locking rod wasn't fully engaged with the fuel lid. I've do spot checks from time to time and find that, at least half the tine, the fuel door is not latched.

I asked the service folks to check it but they could not get the problem to replicate. Isn't it always that way?

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

just making sure....the fuel door locks if you lock the car with the remote; it does not lock if you lock the car with the inside toggle or if the doors have locked automatically at 8mph

All of the power locks are tied together. Whether you use the remote, the toggle or they speed activate, when they lock, they all lock (including the fuel door).
At least that's what I've been told.

nope...on my '04 MC the fuel door locks with the remote , not with the automatic locking at 8mph or with the inside toggle....which is convenient as you drive out of your driveway and the doors lock and then when you drive to the gas station, you don't have to fiddle with unlocking the fuel door as the fuel door remained unlocked
