Is it just me or is the MINI's antenna way too long? I mean, I like how it's centrally placed in the rear of the roof , but I just think it's way too long....and I'm just wondering if I'm alone in my thinking. I have seen a couple of different "shorty" antennas (sp?) that aren't very expensive and I would like any input from those who have seen and/or installed one. (and of course any pics would be appreciated!)

Thanks a lot!

I have the red shorty, from minicooperparts.com. Its great!! I don't think I have any pics of it... But I'm so glad I got it. Reception actually seems improved with it. Not to mention...its just so damn cute on my cr/w cooper.

Chrissy-
I agreed with you, and made my very first aftermarket purchase one of the short ALTA antennas. I think it looks much better, and the reception is certainly as good.
Here's what mine looks like:

I say definately go for it!

I have the stud antenna from Alta Performance. Love it and have no perceivable changes in radio reception. You will be surprise how much this simple mod changes the look of your mini.

Sweet! Thanks a lot everybody for your input. I'm also glad to know that it doesn't impair radio reception. I hadn't actually thought about that aspect..I was mainly concerned with appearances...hee hee.

I took the antenna off on a trip from Pennsylvania to Ohio to reduce drag (It was expressway all the way, and I was trying to see how good of mileage I could squeeze out of the little cooper), and realized that I get just as good of FM reception with the antenna off as on, though I don't get diddly for AM. It's been riding around in the glovebox ever since.

I took a stock vw beetle antenna i had laying around and cut it down and placed a cap on it. Works the same.

I am saving my 20 bucks for other mods

>>>> These antennas are way cool, I want to get one for my all black S wich arrives in July. These look like they slide in and out, do they?
>> And what colour do think for an all black- polished, or black?

The blue one I got doesn't telescope at all. The black one in the picture is definitely different - you can see the ribs in the skinniest part of the shaft. There are no ribs on the other ones.

For your black car, I'd personally get the polished one only because the black one looks bigger. If it was the same size as the others I'd get the black one.

I have a silver super duper extra short that I got from a VW performance shop (VWs and MINIs have the same thread for attaching an antenna.....)

You can switch them up. Just check on any of the numerous MINI parts sites. They aren't expensive.
