My transmission has developed a rattle. In 1st, 3rd and 5th it rattles at speeds greater than 4000 rpm. The sound is like the buzz you would get from a loose bolt on a vibrating piece of metal. The sound is exactly the same whether I rev to those speeds with the clutch in or if driving at over 4000rpm. Having it occur with the clutch in suggests it is not the transmission, but having it only in certain gears makes me think it is something loose in the transmission that is vibrating. It is loud enough to hear over the radio - there is no doubt that it's there. Any ideas?
i get the same thing!! I thought it was something rattling in my glove box, or my seat belt. I'll have to check on my ride home, what gears, and rpms this happens in. will report back.
Same here. Happens in any gear at about 4000 rpm. I've determined that if I rest my hand on the gearshift and apply just a little pressure one way or another, the noise/vibration/rattle goes away.
Thanks guys - you're right - pushing the level forwards stops the rattle. It's definitely the linkage. I have a while before my next scheduled service so please keep me posted if you get the dealer to fix this.
