Daytime running lights w/auto lights option?

Just bought an '05 MCS and it has the automatic headlight option. I want to have daytime running lights for safety. The manual seems to indicate that this can be done by turning on the lights and leaving them on all the time - they should shut down with the car off. However, mine do not seem to do that and the car gives me a warning when I shut it off. Are daytime running lights not possible [other than manually turning them on and off each time] with the automatic headlight option? Thanks...

Hey Minipapa,

I just turned in the car today at the dealer to do an early oil change(it was part of the agreement when I bought the car). I also had them program the daytime running lights. They tried to charge me, but asked if they could waive it since I just bought the car. You shouldn't have to pay 30min of labor for something that takes them 2min to do. So try not to let them charge you for this. I also asked them to program the windows to roll down using the remote on the key(I read this feature in the forum). My MA said there were no such feature. But when I turned it in, the repair lady said she'd do it. It's called "convenience program" or something like that. I'd have to look at the papers again. Hope this helps. Good luck and congrats on your new MINI!

DRLs

I have the daytime running lights feature enabled on mine. Typically for a DRL the head light will only burn a half to a third as bright as normal.

Sorry

I clicked 'submit' before I mentioned that with DRLs the headlights are partially 'on' all the time unless you switch on the head lights, then they operate at their normal brightness.
