R50/53 Steptronic Mode

Because, in case you haven't noticed yet, the Steptronic program modes allows you to start the car from standstill in "second" gear. If I want to have a briskier takeoff then I tap the shifter down to "First" gear giving the true feel of a first gear manual shift.
Next time try starting the car from 2nd gear and the takeoff will feel very similar as if you were driving in "Normal" mode.

Hey Cooper4us,
That's the whole point. When using the steptronic mode, the CVT will down shift for you automaticlly when your speed drops and you have shift to a higher gear. When coming to a complete stop I feel it should down shift to first gear in anticipation that you want to start off in first gear not second.

I know what u mean. I am not sure as to why it was programmed that way. perhaps you may want to come and join us at http://www.mini2.com and ask some of the more technical CVT experts in that discussion board.
So far, how you like your Cooper CVT?
