No if you want to enjoy LIVE music you go to a concert..
Last time I checked, I could listen to music and drive (you see my hands will be on the wheel and not grabbing my extra large giganto gulp..)

I took it off, but left the bracket for long road trips. I just use the one in the back middle of the car, I dont drink much while driving anyway so

So, then, you never change stations/cd's/mp3 files or adjust the volume? Yeah, you do it when it is safe, which is when I sip my coffee.

Cool. Good thing my car will have the MFSW too, so I will be able to change the station, while drinking my coffee and still not have to take my hand off the wheel.

You guys dont really get it... you have to get in the minds of the germans to see why they dont favor cupholders. The autobahns, nurburgring, Germany is a country for driving, and eating or drinking while driving is just something they dont do like us. They drive yes, listen to music yes, but drink something while going very fast on the autobahn? no. Also, even normal driving in Germany requires a lot more attention, because their driving regulations are very very strict. Hope this helps with why Merc's, BMW's, and minis dont really pay attention to cup holders!

And since I've learned that, I've found that its so much more satisfying to eat while youre outside the car, and then get in and drive to some music. Those germans know what theyre doing!

Hmmm. I THINK I get it...

In fact, I think I've had this same conversation SEVERAL times before... so much so, that I blogged my standard response so I don't have to repeat myself...

I lived in Germany for several years, so I get it. I just resent the implication or statement that because I want a place to keep a can of soda when I drive I am somehow not interested in really driving.

Another reason driving in Germany requires a lot more focus than driving in the U.S....

Ever seen one of those little German villages in which the homes were built before the invention of the automobile ? See how narrow those streets are ? They were fine for the era of the horse drawn carriage. But they're a little tricky when you're driving a modern automobile. You can clip a house pretty easily. Or worse yet, you can clip someone who took a long stride out their front door. BOOM... one less Frauline.

I asked the dealer to just leave it in the box and not install it to begin with... didn't like the look of it. (and the 04 one was the MINIFINI one).

I lived in one of those towns. Never saw any clippings, except when some dufus driving a huge US military vehicle carrying a missile decided to take a shortcut.

I do have 2 hands. It's been a long time since I needed to hold a cup with 2 hands.

One is not serious about driving untill you have a car with cruise control, drive 1,000 miles and have no idea how to set the cruise control and wouldn't have used it if you did!

Depends where/when you drive. Long stretches on empty midnight highways don't offer much of a "real driving experience" anyway. It's nice to be able to put on the cruise control, slip into the back seat -- with a drink --- and take a nap.

Tsk tsk LynnEl...you're taking your hands off the wheel again...
who would be driving if you are in the back seat with a drink? and taking a nap

I hardly use the cruise control, but I am glad I have it....(it helps when there is a trooper around to ensure you are going the speed limit)

My '04 had the MiniFini one...first thing I did was to take it off.....it is just sitting in my basement somewhere looking for some use or for a new home......it looked stupid and got in the way of the passenger's knee's......the newer cupholder holds the drink up too high over the radio/AC controls and is rickety.....nice tries though

Rubbing Alcohol works too, and you probably already have some around the house. The alcohol doesn't stink for long and evaporates quickly.

Germany is not nearly as infested with absurdly low speed limits, radar, crooked small towns trying to strike it rich, and a huge insurance lobby to keep it that way. It requires intense concentration to drive over there. Kinda like you can play a Playstation 3 for 2 or 3 hours and think 20 minutes have elapsed. Try staring at a clock for 2 or 3 hours and see how much your attention wanders....

the prob is why u can't wait to get to ur destination so u can drink/eat freely. so u can't wait 30-45 mins. to satisfy ur hunger/thirst? the prob is those darn drive-thrus. we don't have a drive thru in our country and i think Germany too. i believe US is the only country that MUST have a drive thru. im qrius about the cruise control though. i read the manual on how to use it, but.. still dont know how to use it.

I have a two spoke wheel. Three buttons on both sides. The two on my left are system on and resume. The right side is a plus and minus. Press system on press plus at desired speed. When you wish to slow down press system on and it will disenguage. prees resume and go back to your desired speed. But I am sure you knew that.
