R50/53 Cruise Control Weirdness...
#1
I've noticed that the crusie control on my 03 MCS is not consistant. I'll set it for about 75, and I'll notice that sometimes it gets near 70 and sometimes near 80 (I'm always in 6th gear at this point).
Usually when I notice it, I test it by comparison to the speed the GPS tells me (one of the many nice NAV unit features, the real speed). When I set the cruise control, I tell the GPS to recalculate my average speed. (BTW: The Mini's speedo is about 3mph slow). Then, whenever I notice my speed seeming faster/slower, I let it recalculate again and it confims that I swayed off between +/- 3-4mph.
Anyone else notice this??
Any ideas on what may be wrong??
Erik

I've found mine to be slow to respond to changes in the road. I had the opportunity to study it on a long driving trip. Basically, if I hit the slightest uphill grade it takes a bit for the car to respond, thus allowing the speed to drop, sometimes as much as 5 MPH. Same is true for a downhill grade, my speed increases, though it usually only goes up about 3 MPH. Eventually, if I just let it be, it will correct itself back to where it was. Most of the time, I get impatient (especially if it's going faster than I want) and take it off, find my speed and set the cruise again.

yeah, sort of.
The cruise control is not the quickest in response, and has a fairly large amount of drift. Mine goes up and down by about 3 mph (= set speed +/- 3 mph for a total range of 6 mph within which it regulates), most of the time. Occasionally, this will drift to +/- 4 mph. My old suby was much better in this respect, and in the suby I also really like a particular function of the +/- buttons: + increased set speed by 1mph, - decreased it by 1 mph. Wish MINI would implement this.
