Roof squeaks while opening, closing - any fixes?

Anyone have issues where the roof squeeks a lot mostly when closing but sometimes when opening? I just had it in to the dealer on Friday (two days ago) and they lubed it, but it didn't seem to last long. This is exactly what happened when I tried to lube the top myself - it only stopped the squeaking for a very brief time.

Any suggestions?

I don't have my mini yet - but my previous convert's made noises periodically. I used a silicone spray....worked real well and lasted a while too

Mine sqeaks like crazy too when opening/closing. If there IS anything to put on it I'd try it, but I assumed it normal?

I've tried silicone-based lubricants on it and they didn't last more than a day... I was thinking maybe the dealer would hit some points I missed but I guess not.

Same here until I used STP by applying it with a toothbrush. It has the best durability the of many lubricants I have used. It is also clear and doesn't muck up the mechanism. Works well-lasts a long time.

Mine makes a racket, as this is the first cabrio I've ever owned, I just assumed it was normal. Just a few responses so far, is that the consensus that are fairly noisy?

My original top was pretty quiet, but mine was replaced at 1ok miles due to white wear spots, and has been pretty noisy since. Kind of a high pitch squealing noise....

Mine only sqeals when I leave it down overnite or longer. If I raise it at the end of each day it's very quiet. You might try graphite powder lubricant. It's old school but effective on a lot of machinery.

My experience has been similar to Dr. Pepper's. When I leave the roof down for a long while it squeals like banshee as I raise it but subsequent lowerings (and raisings) are quieter until I leave it down again for a time. It's almost like it sort of lubricates itself...

Mine also squeals a lot. I haven't found a pattern yet, but Dr. Pepper and Neilgj may be right about leaving the top down a long time.

That's when mine squeaks but if I put it up and then back down no squeaking.

Just another quirk that makes it uniquely MINI.
