R52 RIP Nano...

It's probably too soon to think about replacing Nano -- but there's already an HO on the marketplace. (granted they're asking more than I paid for my MINI with the same packages and 1/4 of the miles -- but they're out there)

Like everyone else, I see this as an opportunity to see what else you can do with a new project --- whether it be an HO or something different.

Matt, here's a couple HO's for sale in the Denver area.

BTW, I forwarded this thread to some friends of mine who have been living vicariously throughout my acquisition of Cab. They have each expressed to me their admiration of Nano and how well made these vert's are. One of them even commented after reading your description of the ordeal "Man what a bummer..... I like this guy and I don't even know him."

glad u guys are ok. I'm sure there were some lessons learned from this. To your wife matt:
Don't be too hard on yourself. Get back on the horse... get some time in on hpde days and go back to the road and get er done.
As far as your car goes.. nothing any of us can say is going to make you feel any better... but sh|t happens. Roll with the punches and start over with a clean slate.

Thanks for the write-up and pics of what happened. Jene and I were wondering but didn't want to ask you to relive it until you were ready. From the description the car protected you guys really well.

I posted an edited version of my reply here on MY BLOG, along with a quote from Paul's very nice eulogy/tribute. Hopefully now I can stop dwelling on this and actually get some work done - I was completely useless today.
No luck so far finding a replacement... Hot Orange is tough to find with a black top. I've found three so far that look great, other than the fact that they have blue tops and matching interiors... That just doesn't do it for me, and the cost of replacing the roof would be, well, non-trivial, I'm sure...
And yes, thanks go to whatever deity was watching out for us that Sunday morning... I'm not a praying man (my agnostic heart has too many questions), but if you do lean that way I wouldn't be offended by you thanking Him/Her/It/Them on my behalf, nosireebob.

Oh man, that new sig is a real downer.
Agree -- but think of the possibilities for Nano2 when you find the perfect custom top from that guy in England who posted on here some weeks ago

Sorry to hear about this, of course, and glad all are well. Any of us who have driven enthusiastically have been in similar circumstances, and some of us with similar results.
Glad to hear you're all on the road to recovery and rejuvenation...we're here to help you on that journey, too...

Good luck looking for a black top HO , they are around on ebay alot. Some with a blue top.
I think their was more in black tops then any other color.
Hope you can find a New HO MCSC!

It's finding one with a black top AND the premium Package AND the Sports Package that's proving to be the trouble...
On the bright side... I just entered into negotiations with a guy in California (gulp) on a 2005 MSC cabrio with VERY low miles and another "nontraditional" body color (not orange, I'm afraid, but something equally cool and unique). Plus, the car has a very sad story and the seller really wants the car to go to a "real MINI enthusiast" (his words). I'll say more later, if we end up wprking a deal, but the price is right and other than the car being 2,000 miles away, it's absolutely perfect.
Wish me luck!
Anyone want to put me up for the night between southern california and Ohio? How bout drive along with me and keep me awake?

So sorry to hear about Nano, but I hope to see you at MOTD 2008 in whatever you might be driving.
I'm not a huge LED mod guy, but your work on Nano did inspire my magnetic meatballs for track days. There are always positives in every story... You and your family are OK and you now have a blank MINI slate to work with!

If Ann can't get by to check on this cabrio, my brother lives in Tucson and I can see if he will take a look at it for you. (Of course, having a fellow MINI owner like Ann take a look is the best bet. )

Matt and Kara,
I'm so glad you all are healthy and OK after all that happened.
It all happens so suddenly there isn't much one can do except second guess what could have been. Thanks for sharing your story.
We all need to be wary and drive safely whether on the Dragon or for our daily commutes.
So sorry to find out about "Nano", quite a perfect HO Cabrio.
