My '08 MCSC does not have the built-in garage door opener.
I don't like the idea of having the regular remote clipped to my visor when I want to walk away from the car with the top down for a couple of minutes to go into a store.
How do others handle this? Do you have the remote hidden somewhere, take a chance on the visor route, or lock it away in the glove when not in use?
I asked this question a few months ago and ended up taking the advice of others and velcro'd it under the toggle switches. It's hidden out of the way, fully reachable, and functions only a fraction worse than on the visor.
I opened my remote , soldered wires to the switch , ran them out of the case and installed a switch in the unused center switch of the toggle panel, you can also install the switch under the dash
I have mine connected to one of Ian's Auto-Up circuit boards so that it is controled by a toggle switch installed in one of the previously unused switch panel positions. I have the remote stashed inside the lower dash panel. Works fine but does limit the range. Makes for a very clean installation.
I took this garage door opener and velcro'd it to the inside of the drivers door pocket. http://www.amazon.com/Liftmaster-key.../dp/B00023RR10
I can reach in the pocket and hit the button and the opener remains invisible to the public. Best of all it took less than a minute to apply velcro and install.

+1 to ALL of the above -- except I actually get better range now!
Neither Ian or I could figure that one out -- but I ain't complaining.

I didn't even velcro mine- I use the visor clip to hang it on the piece of plastic just under the toggle switches (where a lot of people put the AUX input jack). On the '06s there's a "trap door" like piece of plastic, complete with clips that let you open it up (If I hadn't broken my camera, pics would be right here: _______________ )
I just put mine inside the armrest - it fits great and it's not committed to the car, since I still have my Mom-mobile (Odyssey) that I have to use with the kidlets, and need the opener clicker for those times.
I installed a unit from F2P Technologies http://www.f2ptechnologies.com . You connect it to your high beams and replace your garage door opener pad in your garage or add it as a second button somewhere in the garage. Flashing your high beam activates a transmitter that sends a signal to the new button pad.
You can upgrade your rear view mirror to one that has the transmitter built in. I think they can be had for around $300 from the dealership. All the wiring should already be in place so it's an easy plug and play.

I believe that newministuff has a relay that can connect a door opener to the unused buttons on the MFSW. If you aren't afraid of the splicing it could be a good option.
I don't have a convertible, but I didn't want mine to show. Here was my solution. The wiring idea was borrowed from somebody else, and I've heard of better solutions. However, this works.

actually, MINI jacked up the MSRP to $499. Glad we got our cabrio with it from the factory....$200 if I remember right.
The option and one I used for my Wrangler....a keyfob. It depends on what brand opener you have, but I had this one for Chamberlain:

OR, you can do what I did...

Awesome mods guys. I bought one of Ian's latest Auto Up Circuits about a month ago and did a similar wiring from my GD opener to his circuit which uses the door unlock toggle to trigger the opener. If it wasn't for Ian, I never would have even imagined that I could solder a bypass switch into my opener. It came out really clean, and uses the same location for the opener as I had previously. Now if someone came up with a way to use the extra buttons on the steering wheel.....that would be even better

That's what I did - I bought a small one that is made for a keychain (and even came with Velcro) and stuck it under the toggles. Out of the way and mostly not noticeable.
I have mine on my key ring. I once had a garage door opener in the car. It was broken into and for some reason they did not open the garage but it got me to thinking what if?
